Halina KUBINSKI Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 21, 2004.
KUBINSKI _ Halina Marie MD, FRPC(C) Born March 12, 1925. Dr. Kubinski passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, August 12, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, Josef and Aleksandra and her husband Zbigniew (John). She is survived by her stepson Mark, daughter-in-law Geraldine, grandsons Denny and Tim; granddaughter-in-law Nicole and great-Memo: great- granddaughter Chase, all residing in the United States. Dr. Kubinski was born in Warsaw, Poland. Her life was greatly altered by the events of WWII in her country, a time during which she was active in the Polish uprising in 1944, as well as being a prisoner in both German and Russian concentration camps. Following the war, Dr. Kubinski emigrated to Belgium and received her medical degree from the University of Brussels in 1949. She remained in Belgium, serving on the medical staff at the University Hospital Brigman in Brussels, as well as serving as a medical examiner for the International Refugee Organization. In 1952 Dr. Kubinski moved to Montreal, where she met Zbigniew, who was concluding his medical residency at McGill University. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1954 to initiate their practices. While practicing in Moose Jaw, Halina completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, and also served as Captain in the Canadian Armed Forces until 1980. At that time she moved to Tsawwassen, British Columbia, establishing her practice there while becoming allied with Delta Community Hospital. She maintained her practice until ill health forced her to retire completely in 1999. As was her wish, her ashes will be interred in the family plot in Warsaw with her parents and husband. In concurrence with her wishes, no services will be held. A gathering of friends, family and colleagues will be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Delta Hospital Foundation or the BC Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
