Hannah Goetz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 27 to Jul. 30, 2023.
Hannah Grace Goetz, 21, surrounded by her loving family and closest friends, went to be with the Lord on July 16, 2023. Hannah was born with Cystic Fibrosis and most of her life she struggled to breathe. After falling ill with the flu the summer of 2019, her lungs became so diseased that her only chance to live was to receive a double-lung transplant. On July 26, 2019, Hannah was matched with compatible lungs and started her arduous journey to recovery. After months of rehab and physical therapy, she was released from hospital care in October that same year. Her new lungs gifted her with 4 additional years of life allowing her to travel and make wonderful memories with family & friends. This year her body began rejecting those lungs and after a long, courageous fight, she decided her body was too tired to pursue a second double-lung transplant.

Hannah lived life to the fullest and left a huge impact on the world around her and the people that knew and loved her. She was a fighter, brave, independent, a self-thinker, brutally honest, carefree, wild, and beautiful. She loved her family & friends, the beach, animals (especially her St. Berdoodle, "Miracle" and rescued cat, "Big Mac"), music, dancing, singing, performing, makeup, fashion, candy, stuffed animals, her baby blanket, playing soccer, traveling, watching murder documentaries & eating steak & potatoes. Although she had CF, she did not let it define her or limit her dreams. We will all miss her beautiful smile and her authentic, free-loving spirit.

Hannah is survived by her best-friend and mom, Holly Patterson Goetz, her dad, Timothy Goetz, her brother, Peyton Goetz, her grandparents, Harry & Darlene Patterson and Ray & Betty Goetz, her uncle, aunt and cousin, Harry, Martha & Zoe Patterson, her aunt, Cindy Goetz, her uncle & aunt, Jim & Marilyn Goetz, her Godmother & CaringBridge author, Mindy Poland, and many other extended family, cousins, friends, & the "Sir Walter Posse" (SWP).

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 6pm at the Hub 757 located at 6801 Bridgeway Drive Suite C, Suffolk, VA 23435 (arrive by 5:30pm). We are encouraging guests to wear Hannah's favorite colors, pink & purple, to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to GoFundMe (Hope for Hannah Goetz) to help offset the family's medical and funeral expenses. Donations can also be made to the following non-profits which are near and dear to the family's heart: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, UNOS (Organ Donation), & the Ronald McDonald House.

We appreciate the support, prayers and love shown to Hannah and her family over the past four years! It brings us comfort to know she impacted so many people and through her courageous battle, she brought much attention to a disease that desperately needs a cure. We pray that her legacy will continue to bring awareness, change and courage to others, especially those fighting this dreaded disease. #justbreathe #forever21

I was a student of Mr. Goetz all throughout middle school and I am devastated to find out about Hannah, I was so inspired by every story he had to tell us about Hannah and her personality, her strength, and her passions. I hope that she rests easy knowing that my entire class shared these feelings of admiration for her. She has inspired me to become so devoted to the medical field and I hope that her and her family are aware of how much they are loved within our community.

I will always remember Hannah as the most positive, energetic, and wild girl. I remember we rode these weird animal scooters through Chesapeake square mall and had a goofy time. In the car afterward she played Strunk by Die Antwoord which is one of the weirdest songs Ive heard in my life, and she could match the singer´s unique voice so well. Random memory but to me it reminds me of how she was so unapologetically herself all the time, which is so admirable. Especially at the time I knew her best in middle school. I´m so sorry for your family´s loss

Hannah was such a special girl. I had the privileged to care for her while in the ICU. She fought a hard battle and was blessed to have such loving and supportive family and friends. I am lucky to have met and shared some time with her.
