Harish K. Gidwani

Harish K. Gidwani (1941-2022). Harish passed away June 25th, 2022 after fighting advanced stage cancer for a year.

Born in Karachi, prior to Partition, Harish was the eldest of four children. He attended The Lawrence School, Sanawar located in the Kasauli Hills, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India. He then graduated from the Directorate of Marine Engineering (DMET) in Bombay and became the youngest officer in the Indian Merchant Navy. After sailing the world he married and while living in the Blackheath neighbourhood of London, England, received his Masters in Engineering from Cambridge. He later accepted a job with U.S. Salvage and settled in Seattle Washington, had a family and went on to partner with "Doc" Stream in M.A. Stream & Associates, a marine surveying company, before branching out on his own to do the same until he retired.

Harish loved to collect experiences, talk up a tall tale with old and new friends, appreciated art, theater, music, books, good food, a smoke from his pipe and a scotch on the rocks at the Woodmark in Kirkland, WA, surrounded by the Carillon-Crew of friends. He refused to eat any animal featured in a Disney movie and found great joy in growing mysterious things in all sorts of pots indoors and out. He adored getting in his "Albino Rhino" Range Rover and cruising up and down the west coast of the U.S. enjoying all his favorite haunts from British Columbia down through Oregon and California.

He is preceded in death by both his parents Krishna and Dru Gidwani, his former wife Gretchen Gidwani and many dear friends in the Maritime community. He is survived by his son, Zubin Gidwani (wife, Jennifer and sons, Kai & Kimo), his daughter, Ayesha Williamson (husband, J.R. and daughter, Fathom), his sisters, Shirin Hira (Chandru), Aroon Shivdasani (Indur), Reeta Karmarkar (Uday) and many Nieces and Nephews as well as grand-nieces and grand-nephews, a myriad of extended family from the Peters family and he is additionally survived by Lisa Pennington, whom he recently married in March of this year.

Private funeral and cremation services are planned for Thursday, June 30th, 2022 with a small wake for friends and family to share stories and raise a glass in his honor later that evening. Please RSVP for the wake to zgidwani@gmail.com.
