Harley Tarlitz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2025.
Harley Jason Tarlitz. Born January 14, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to Leo Tarlitz and Hannah Anne Tarlitz (nee Pearlstein), died March 17, 2025, at age 82 in Reseda, California. Celebration of Life plans are pending. Harley is survived by his daughters Charlotte Raymond and Veronica Tarlitz, his sisters Deborah Simon and Johanna Bruner, and his nephews Nicholas (Kama) Richetta , Christian Polsinelli, Dale (Serpil) Bruner and Robin Bruner. His wife Ethel predeceased him in January 2014. Harley was a multi-talented individual with a love for travel and acting. His greatest passion however was music, and he was a valued member of the Southern California Bluegrass community participating in significant Bluegrass events for over 50 years. We are grateful to all of Harley's musical friends and family for the hours of musical joy you shared. As Terry Baucom once said, from the stage, "Turn this mic up i'm getting ready to blast off!"

The wind is whistling through the willows, the wind is whistling through the trees; the sound of the wind makes my heart ache, )Harley Tarlitz. C.1980) I can´t remember the rest of the song but it seems appropriate now. Beyond music, Harley loved astronomy and introduced my brother Dale and I to it. thank you Harley and rest in peace, love, Robin.

Sad to see Harley go, he was a very welcome presence in the bluegrass community in Southern CA...here's a vintage photo of him with some of the most respected "usual suspects" in L.A. bluegrass, and another more recent one where he's with my old buddy Brantley Kearns.
