PEABODY — Harold Keiichi Abe, 75, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, died surrounded by his family, Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Renaissance Gardens at Brooksby Village. He was the beloved husband of Allaine M. (Williams) Abe.
Born in Hilo, Hawaii, he was the son of the late Kanichi and Sugayo (Oda) Abe. He was a graduate of Hilo High School, Class of 1950; University of Hawaii, Class of 1954; and Harvard Law School, Class of 1957. He also studied Japanese at Yale University.
Harold practiced law in Washington. He then went to Japan where he was a lecturer and student at Tokyo University, Graduate School of Law, and began a successful 30-year career with IBM. Before moving to Brooksby Village, Harold had resided in Hawaii, Cambridge, Japan, Hong Kong, Connecticut, France and Georgia.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, boating, woodworking and traveling. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
In addition to his loving wife of 48 years, Harold is survived by his four sons, George Abe and his wife Bettina of Acton, Robert Abe of Volcano, Hawaii, David Abe and his wife Diane of Lexington and Jonathan Abe and his fiancee Tatum Kobayashi of Cambridge; his four dear grandchildren, Thomas, Magdalen, Katherine and Grace Abe; his siblings, Janet Chin and Ethel Tsue both of Hilo, Hawaii, Nancy Bauer of Spring Lake, Mich. and Dr. Ronald Abe of Ft. Valley, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, Peabody. A reception will follow. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Rte 62) Danvers. For more information, inquire at 978-774-6600. On line guestbook at www.legacy.com. We were sorry to read in the Westport News of Harold's passing. We sincerely send our sympathy to all for such a great loss of such a nice husband and father.
