Harold Bissner III Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 15 to Jan. 29, 2023.

Harold "Jamie" Bissner passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his beloved wife of 35 years, Colleen, and his trusty Labrador George by his side.

Jamie graduated from Flintridge Preparatory School and kept in touch with many of his Prep classmates whom he loved dearly and had known since early childhood; he used to say that Flintridge Prep was the second best thing that happened to him, second only to marrying Colleen. He was an iconic figure in Altadena who cherished the town he grew up in, volunteered in many leadership capacities, and was honored as Citizen of the Year. He served for ten years on the LA County Mosquito and Vector Control Board.

Jamie, son of architect Harold Bissner Jr., ran his own construction company for decades, specializing in commercial/industrial construction before transitioning to residential remodeling of historic homes in the San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Eventually, he took his profession to another level and became a forensic expert witness in construction/real estate litigation. This is where he found his Nirvana. Professional colleagues describe him as a brilliant and magnanimous man with a gift for writing and sharing knowledge.

Jamie will always be remembered for his encyclopedic memory, as a great conversationalist, striking up a conversation with anyone; he would light up the room with his presence. Family, friends, and colleagues will sorely miss him. RIP dear husband, brother, and friend! As Jamie would say one last Hurrah!

Jamie is survived by his wife Colleen Bissner, sisters Carol McNamara and Teresa (Justy) Garcin, and stepmother Lela Bissner. He is preceded in death by Harold James Bissner Jr., mother Lucille Bissner, sister Sue Bissner, and brother-in-law Gary McNamara.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Flintridge Preparatory School, 4543 Crown Avenue, La Canada, CA 91011, Attn: External Affairs. A celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Uncle Jamie, saying your name instantly brings a smile to my face; I picture you smiling, I hear your gregarious laugh. You have always been one of my biggest cheerleaders. Ever since I was a little girl, you encouraged me to learn, explore, and be true to myself. I love this picture of us because you and Aunt Colleen were so thrilled to cheer for me and let me know how proud of me you were. It meant so much to me.
From Big Bear, to airshows, to playing in your backyard, we always had such fun adventures. I will miss you so much. I promise to make Aunt Colleen join me and my girls on adventures in your honor. RIP and give my grandma a hug for me.
