I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank you Dad for instilling such interesting values and ideas in us all. As said by Danny and Carol, Hal was our greatest fan and supporter throughout life. He loved selflessly to the end. I will allways remember his confidence building quote: "If anyone can do it, you can do it" I have tried to live my life by that motto.

Together with the complimentary influence of Mom, we got a truely unique upbringing. Love to all whom Hal touched, especially Mom, Brother Dan, and Sister Carol.

We were friends of Hal through our son who was a cyclist with Danny. He was a fine person and we always enjoyed talking to him at the bike events at the zoo parking lot.

Roy and Janice send all you remarkable people of the Hal Chew Clan our warm wishes at this difficult time. Hal touched our lives through cycling, comraderie, and the arts. Roy remembers creating some illustrations for Hal's literature used in his teaching field---making children's lives better. All you Chew family members make this old world a better place. Hal and Sal, we salute you and know you both are smiling...

Since hearing of Raymond's death, the memories have flooded in. He was only 3 years younger than my husband, his uncle, and 3 years younger than I. Raymond was a joy to have around. He lived with us in our modest little home for several years. One especially funny memory, although not quite so at the time, involves an "OLD LASALLE" that Raymond was able to buy. He usually parked it out front near a tree. One time it caught fire, along with the tree. The fire department came and literally took out the seats and had them in our front yard. During the night the seats reignited, and his Uncle Jim put out the fire. He never failed to bring goodies home and kept us in strawberries and ice cream! Before he had a family, any trips back to McKees Rocks always meant all night talks on the porch. Later when he would visit Michigan, he always came to our home. We always loved having him and totally enjoyed his music and artistic talents. When he built an addition onto his mother's home visited once and he proudly showed us two of his children sleeping in a small bedroom. When he went into education, we were very proud of him. We loved Raymond very much. After my husband died, I was able to spend many many nights reliving the wonderful memories shared with Raymond. He will be missed. Love to you Sally, Carol, Tom, and Danny. Aunt Frances Hartley

To Hal's family,
I never met Hal in person, I only spoke to him on the phone. He was a kind and gracious man, and a good father. I know this isn't an easy time for those who knew and love him. My heart is with you.

To Hal's family

I missed the opportunity to meet Hal, however in a way I feel a ceertain kinship through Danny who has has become a dear friend. Hal was a special person to have a son like Danny -- the world is a better place because of him.

For as long as I can remember, there has been a "Raymond" in my life. Being a cousin 25 years younger than he never seemed to keep him from treating me as an equal no matter what age we both were. He lived with my Mom and Dad (his Uncle Jim)for a time and as I grew older, he continued to be an incredibly wonderful hero in my eyes. He was an artist in every sense of the word and in every field it seemed. I can close my eyes and hear him play his grand piano or picture his many sketches. I was privy to sharing many wonderful years watching his family grow. No father loved his children more. He walked the talk when it came to education and truly knew there was more to every child than what might be on the surface. Raymond lived life with a passion too few dare to show. It's impossible to have known him and not feel the loss of his presence. Hugs and love to you dear Sally and Carol and Tom and Danny.

I remember the fun times when we first met, back in 1976. Bike racing, apricot pits, and the delicious green bean casseroles cooked up by Sal. Philosophical talks, the real value of money, the the big big house.

Hal has always had a special place in my heart since the day we met. Rarely have we seen one another through the years... but when ever we met it was like we were always in touch. His growly chuckle will be missed but my memories of time spent with Hal will never leave me. My condolences to my great friends Sal (and adopted Mom although she never knew it); Carol (John), Tommy (Heidi, whom I've never met), and Danny. Thanks for sharing your loving husband and father with me these past 35+ years. My heart is filled with joy for all of our fine times together. Thanks you for these memories that will be with me forever. God Bless you all. Jan

To the family of Hal Chew,

Hal, or "Ray" as we knew him, was one of our favorite people in our Sunday School Class and Christian Endeavor at the Presbyterian Church on Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks, Pa.

Ray's mother was our Sunday School Teacher and we always had loads of fun. Ray was always the life of the party. Our group spent many wonderful times together at our house in Chartiers City.

I have been thinking of Ray a lot lately and wondered how he and his family were doing. Then, my sister, Beverly emailed me yesterday about his passing.

You all have our deepest sympathy and we will keep you in our prayers that God will help to ease your sorrow at this difficult time.

Take care and may God Continue to Bless you all.

To my father Hal,

Thanks for being my biggest fan and sponsor. You encouraged me to go after my dreams so I will dedicate my million mile (ridden on many different bicycles) lifetime goal to you. I will always remember you, and love you forever.
