Harold Craig, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 19 to May 20, 2023.
Harold E. Craig, Jr. died peacefully on May 13, 2023 following a lengthy hospitalization at Piedmont Henry Hospital. Harold was a resident of Jonesboro, Georgia but was born in Atlanta and spent his childhood and the majority of his adult years there.

Harold was born to Rosa Lee Simmons Craig and H. Eugene Craig, Sr. on August 29, 1946. As the oldest of three children, Harold's siblings included Gwenneth Elaine (Gwenn) Craig and Gerald Simmons Craig.

Harold graduated from Luther Judson Price High School where he played clarinet in the school band. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Clark Atlanta University in 1965 and his Master's in Education from Georgia State University in 1972. Harold pledged to the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in his college years and remained active with them throughout his adult life.

Harold is survived by his wife Sandra Craig; his daughter Mia Woods Grant; his stepdaughter Imani Archie; his stepson Ameer Warrick; his step-grandsons Gabriel Warrick, Keyven Warrick, Landon Warrick, and Jackson Warrick ; his nieces Eshon Allen and Geralyn (Geri) Craig; and by his many loving cousins.

Harold's chief years of employment were spent as Vice President of Economic Development for Atlanta Technical College, and as Director of Inner-City Programs for National Families in Action. Along with his wife Sandra, Harold began his membership in the Seventh Day Adventist Church 26 years ago, after spending his childhood alongside his parents and siblings at Central UnIted Methodist Church. He became an active Seventh Day Adventist and served as a local elder from 1988 to 2014.

Harold enjoyed a love of music, movies, sports and travel, and a passion for social justice and political activism. He maintained strong ties to his extended family and made every effort to stay in touch with family members who were spread throughout several parts of Georgia and other states. He will be forever remembered for his community-building skills, generous spirit, compassion for the oppressed and less fortunate, and his good humor. His light in this world dimmed far too soon.

A funeral service for Harold E. Craig, Jr. will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2O23, 11:00 AM at Atlanta Southside Seventh Day Adventist Church, 9940 Dixon Industrial Boulevard, Jonesboro, GA 30236. There will be a viewing preceding the funeral service on Monday, May 22, 2023, 4:00-7:00 PM at Meadows Mortuary, 419 Flat Shoals Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30316.
