Harold Leland Hernly

Lee Hernly died suddenly on July 26, 2022, due to complications from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was a longtime resident of Alexandria, Virginia. Lee was born on November 28, 1963, to Dorothy Lee Hernly, R.N., and Harold Granville Hernly, Jr., Esq. in Washington, D.C. After graduating from T.C. Williams High School in 1982, he enrolled at East Carolina University, in Greenville, N.C. After completing a year of undergraduate study, Lee joined the U.S. Armed Forces. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from 1983 until 1989, where he was stationed in Panama, Japan, and South Korea.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the military, Lee held a variety of jobs in the retail and hospitality industries throughout the D.C. area in the 1990's. However, his true calling was in the field of Information Technology. Lee worked as a Programmer at Dynamic Technology Systems, Inc. (DTS) from 2000 until 2009. While employed at DTS, Inc., Lee earned his associate's degree in Applied Sciences from Northern Virginia Community College in 2004. He also earned a bachelor's degree in Individualized Studies from George Mason University in 2005. In 2009, Lee joined CEXEC, Inc. as a Computer Specialist/Database Administrator, where he worked until 2016. From 2016 until 2022, Lee worked as a Level 2 Systems Analyst at INALAB Consulting, Inc.

Lee was preceded in death by his father in 2004. Lee is survived by his wife of 19 years, Ann Southard Murphy, and their son Samuel Southard Hernly. Lee is also survived by two daughters from his first marriage to Corrinda Duncan, Carolina H. Taylor, and Katherine A. Hernly, and a granddaughter, Alley S. Taylor, all of Texas. His mother Dorothy, and brother Jay G. Hernly of Alexandria, and brother John F. Hernly, Sr. of Wilmington, North Carolina, and sister Katherine H. Hull of Casselberry, Florida also survive.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Church at 228 South Pitt Street in Alexandria, Virginia on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
