I was saddened to read of the death of Harold Loney. I am grateful to Legacy.com to be able to share my sympathy electronically to you, Julin, Jim and Barbara. I remember him as a friendly guy and a great supporter of his kids at the ski races.

Dear Barbara, As you may recall, but for my father, you and Harold were the only two people that I allowed to call me Janie. I went to work for you in 1969 as a very young, yet capable bookkeeper and secretary. I was cautioned by my mother that HLCO had a reputation of not keeping office help for very long, i.e. turnover was high! I worked for H until his retirement, so probably about 16 years, and the learning curve was tremendous. At that time, one in my capacity was referred to as a Gal Friday. Harold and you "adopted" me, put me under your wings and taught me the business side of general construction and guided and molded me to become a professional, capable person. I learned that a man who holds a hammer does not always push a pencil well. I learned to always answer the phone with a smile. I've often referred to these adages when communicating with others. Yes, I made many pots of coffee, filled a lot of coffee cups when the banging pipe on the ashtray signaled me to do so, emptied numerous ashtrays and protected H from those annoying phone calls and salesmen that would stop by. The outside world just never understood what working on an estimate involved and that bid opening days were off limits to all but those necessary. We worked hard, we laughed a lot, I cried a few times and truly loved the work that I did. Harold drove me to the Church in his Caddy on my wedding day on 6/6/1970. I was thrilled and he was very happy to do so. H very patiently worked through my pregnancies and sincerely loved playing with Melissa. You both spoiled her and then Jessica came along! You became Godparents to both of the girls, and while they were young, they acknowledged your love and caring. I will forever have fond memories of Harold and sap lap siding and the slap on the butt!!

He touched many people in many ways, and I think the majority will quickly say their lives were enriched by him in one way or another.

With warm regards and love..........Janie

What a nice tribute to a wonderful man and father to me. As I read it, I smiled remembering all of the times he took me to see the underway construction sites, many times I traveled on board Tumble Home, and all of the skiing competitions that you and Mom drove us to. Dad, it was a great ride, and I'll always miss you! You will always be bigger than life to me!
