Harold Edward Thacker

Harold Edward Thacker, 80, of North Garden, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on November 2, 1931, in Charlottesville, the son of the late Beatrice T. Thacker and Bernard N. Thacker. He was also predeceased by his wife, Mary Stephens Thacker and his brother, James Wallace Thacker. Mr. Thacker was an auto mechanic for many years, but had also worked as a farm manager. Dad was always working on something. Most recently, he did a lot of small engine repair for the local community. He was a longtime member of Covesville Baptist Church. Survivors include his four children, David Thacker, Daniel Thacker, Janice Thacker Hughes and her husband, Alvin Hughes II, and Cheryl Thacker; two grandchildren, Emily and Caleb Hughes; two sisters, Gladys Thacker and her husband, Ben, and Edna Thacker and her husband, Page; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, at Hill and Wood Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Richard Dorman officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Monticello Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Garden Fire Department, 4907 Plank Road, North Garden, VA 22959.
