LEWISBURG - Harold S. Walter, 85, of 945 Fairground Road, entered into eternal rest at 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004 in the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Snydertown, Northumberland County, a son of the late Foster J. and Minnie E. (Heintzelman) Walter. On July 21, 1939, at the Mazeppa Parsonage in Mazeppa, Harold was united in marriage to Lydia F. Benfer, who survives.
In 1969, Harold started his own business in Vicksburg. In 1972, he began selling John Deere Tractors and farm equipment and after 17 years of ownership, Harold retired.
He was a member of the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.
Mr. Walter was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1396, Mifflinburg.
Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After his retirement, his family would still find him working on old farm machinery. Mr. Walter enjoyed spending time meeting and talking with people. He loved horses, gardening and taking care of his lawn. Harold also enjoyed saving John Deere collectibles.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Lydia, are one son and daughter-in-law, Bob F. and Linda C. Walter of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy L. Miller-Boyer and James K. Boyer of Lewisburg; four grandchildren and their spouses, Edwin C. Miller Jr. and wife, Melissa E., of Lewisburg, Shawn F. Walter and wife, Cris M., of Millmont, Brad F. Walter and wife, Angie L., of Millmont and Nikki L. Shemory and husband, Adam J., of Mifflinburg; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Homer J., husband of Helen Walter of Mifflinburg; and three sisters, Irene Bilger of Mifflinburg, Ethel Bilger-Fullerton of North Fort Meyers, Fla. and Edna Wenrich of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Leon Walter and three siblings who died during infancy.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the James L. Schwartz Home for Funerals, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Road, Lewisburg, where the funeral will follow at 11 with the Rev. Michael C. Romig, pastor of Dreisbach United Church of Christ and the Rev. Theodore Cockley, Chaplain at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, officiating.
Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery, Union County.
The family will provide flowers and suggest contributions in Harold's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23456 or to Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
