Harold Alan Yost

Services for Harold Alan Yost will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Harold will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 8 p.m. Harold passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the age of 81.Born in Taft, Calif. on April 21, 1926, to Victor and Alma (Dye) Yost, Harold, as a young man, lived through the depression years of the 1930’s. He joined the Navy at the age of 16 and saw action in the South Pacific. Receiving an honorable discharge in 1946, Harold rejoined his family who now lived in Artesia, N.M. This is where Harold and his bride-to-be, Ona Wilson, met. The two married and made their home in New Mexico for the first years before moving to Pennsylvania where Harold started a dairy farm. In 1954 the family stopped in Tulsa en route to a new home in Colorado and while in Oklahoma, Harold applied for a job at Douglass Aircraft. That stop was the beginning of many years of employment in the aircraft industry which also included North American and Nordam. The family lived in Catoosa, Claremore and Inola through the years, and Harold started or was involved in summer baseball programs in each of these communities. A family business came into existence in 1972 when Harold and Ona, along with their son, Ron and wife, Sandra, opened HnR Marine. Harold’s first loves were family and then fishing, and he was able to enjoy both in this venture. After 26 years, in 1998, Harold and Ona retired and the business was sold. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Harold Yost is survived by his wife, Ona, of their home in Claremore; his son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Sandra Yost, also of Claremore; granddaughters, Kim Messimore and her husband, Jayson, of Claremore, and Toni Mc David and her husband, Anthony, of Germany; great grandchildren, Mallory, Tyler, and Bryan Jochmans, of Claremore and Myles McDavid, of Germany; and siblings, Amanda Burns and her husband, Buck, of Pennsylvania, Judy Thompson of California, and Carl Yost and his wife, Gale, of Texas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Tom Yost and Donald Yost.
