Harriet Ginsburg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2002.
GINSBURG, HARRIET F., Funeral services for Mrs. Harriet F. Ginsburg, 62, of Winter Park who passed away Tuesday, will be held 1PM Thursday at Congregation Ohev Shalom, 5015 Goddard Avenue, Orlando with Rabbi Aaron Rubinger officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Gotha, FL. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Jewish Federation-Lion of Judah Endowment Fund, 851 N. Maitland Ave. Maitland, FL 32751. Harriet has been a resident of the Orlando area since 1981. She was a homemaker, a member of Congregation Ohev Shalom, Woman of Choice 2002, and has been active in the Jewish Community since she married her husband, Alan. When she lived in Lansing, Michigan, she served as the President of Hadassah and held various offices in her temple, temple sisterhood and B'nai Brith. Her prime focus however, was on the United Jewish Appeal and Jewish Federation. She was instrumental in starting the first Women's Division. While serving on UJA's Young Leadership Board, Harriet took her first trip to Israel in June of 1967 with her husband, Alan. That first trip filled her with a passion for Israel, and they have led over fifteen Young Leadership Missions to Israel - always with 'first timers.' After moving to Orlando, Harriet became very active again in the Women's Division of the Federation and served as chair over the entire division. She has also served as the chair for the Lion of Judah Division, the Yad B' Yad Dinner and has been active and served in various positions with Hadassah. For the last four years, Harriet and Alan have been very involved internationally with the Seeds for Peace Organization. Survivors include her husband, Alan; mother, Winifred Koss of Sun City West, AZ; son, Ronald M. of Washington, D.C; two daughters, Sharon L. of Palm Beach, FL and Jamie S. of Fern Park, FL; brother, Steve Ross of Portage, MI; two sisters, Deborah Koss-Goldstein of Rockville, MD, and Maureen Lombardo of Venice, CA; grandson, Joseph Thomas Ginsburg. Services entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road Orlando, FL 407-599-1180.

Harriet was my Classmate of 57 and basketball team mate. I and my husband Jim are very sorry for your loss. Harriet and I had many good times in school. She was one of the shorter ones and I the taller one of our team. If there is anything I can do please feel free to contact me. You will be in our thoughts.
