Harriet Hoganson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2010.
Hoganson, Harriet (Hansen) 87, of Spicer, MN, formerly of Glen Lake and Prospect Park, Minneapolis. Our Artistic Mermaid swam peacefully into the calm waters of Heaven on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at her lake home surrounded by her family and friends. Harriet was born on December 20, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. She attended Pratt Elementary and Marshall H.S., graduate of 1940. Harriet is survived by brother, Doug (Bev) Hansen; sisters, Betty Krauel and Virginia Belford; daughters, Barb, Sue, Luann, Kathy and son, Dave; grandchildren, Maria, Aimee, Christa, Sarah, Levi, Lindsey, Ashley, Justin, Laura, Jolene, Luke, Erin; great- grandchildren, Cole, Meaghan, Hannah, Emily, Sophia, Caitlynn, Mackenzie, Parker, Nash. Preceded in death by husband, Richard (Buddy) and son, Richard (Hogie-Dickie). Harriet was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Minnetonka, MN. She was active at Faith in many ways including the Second Halfers group and most notably, she painted the wall murals in the Noah's Ark Sunday School rooms at Faith Church. Harriet was also a wonderfully gifted artist and was active with Faith's Palette Club and the C.A.T.'s painting group of New London, MN. Harriet enjoyed her lake home swimming and preparing smores and hot dogs over the lakeshore campfire with her Umpty-Nine friends and family. She would often be seen adorned in a swimming suit and headed for the water. Harriet always had a positive outlook on life and wondered why there's so much turmoil in the world. The people she met during her life always wished that they had a mom like her. Harriet was the ultimate optimist and many of her friends were Harriet Wanna Be's. Harriet lived life on the edge, she could be found near the undertow of the ocean, or the edge of a cliff searching for the beautiful colors and shades of the water, forests and sky. She often was heard saying as she viewed those beautiful colors that they looked good enough to eat. Harriet was a lover of ice cream and if it was too late for the local Dairy Queen treat or Adele's in Excelsior for custard, you could always count on Harriet's freezer for a few varieties of ice cream. Harriet was also a kind woman who welcomed and made everyone she met feel at home. Harriet will be missed by all of those family and friends. The family extends its sincere appreciation and special thanks to Lucky, Lori, Janne, Judie, Bonnie, Marilyn & Buddy of Rice Hospice, Chris Dickinson PA-C and his loving staff and Dr. Tiede. Memorial Services will be held in December at Faith Presbyterian Church, 12007 Excelsior Blvd., Mtka, MN 55343 (952-935-4481). All memorials will be donated to Faith Palette Club and the C.A.T. painting group. Harriet, It's clearing in the west. Keep your stick on the ice and we hope your team wins - we know you're swimming & dancing with the stars.

Harriet was a beautiful and special lady inside and out. I am so sorry for your loss. I have happy memories of time spent with Harriet when I was young. My mother loved her. Harriet always had a smile on her face and such a good outlook on life. I know she will be sadly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her family. We all have our special memories of her to keep us from being sad. That's what she would have wanted. I've never met anyone quite like her and probably never will again. She was one of a kind. You have my deepest sympathy.

Harriet has the qualities you look for in a friend, mother, grandmother, sibling, and teacher. I learned so much from my loving and positive Grandmother. I will miss her, but feel her with me now and know I will continue to look to her for inspiration and guidance.

My lovely daughter, Sophia, is just 5 weeks but was able to visit Harriet twice. My husband and I named Sophia after Harriet. Sophia's middle name is Teirrah which is Harriet spelled backwards. We pronounce it "tiara" which is so fitting because Harriet loved crowns!

Here are a few things I've learned from Harriet:

* The best day for a bathing suit is every day.
* A fork is typically for eating, a toothbrush is typically for brushing teeth, a towel is typically for drying,
but each of these things work great for painting tools too.
* The tastiest dinner is corn on the cob and a fish you pulled out of the lake yourself.
* Lake water can cure or clean anything.
* You’re not done eating until you’ve had dessert.

Harriet......You taught us how to live, how to die and now you are our angel. Your work is not done because we still need your inspiration.

To my many cousins...

My deepest sympathy on the loss of dear Harriet. She was a gem and I remember her with great fondness and affection. I wish it would have been possible to have had more family time together when we were younger. There would be stronger bridges today had it been so.

My mother (Elinor Holm Godfrey) lived by the axiom, "If there's some good I may do, let me do it now, for I may never pass this way again." She nutured this principal within me by example all her life. It's in that spirit I write to offer condolences to you now.

What a beautiful tribute to Harriet! I can hear the excitement in her voice and see the twinkle in her eye as I read this...

I have had the presence of Harriet in my life since I was 12 or 13 years old - Sarah and I became close friends, so much that I consider her family MY family. Harriet's love for life is one that her family shares and it's something I'm proud to have in my heart.

My thoughts are with all that knew and loved Harriet - she was one in a million - the stars are brighter at night with her presence in the sky.

All of our love,

Anita & Joe
