Harriet Showalter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2023.
Harriet Ann Showalter, 74, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on September 27, 2023. She was born on December 2, 1948, in Suffolk, Virginia, to Lloyd Piland Boone and Grace Louise Boone. Harriet was a loving and compassionate individual who had a positive impact on everyone she encountered.

Harriet's giving nature was evident throughout her life. She worked tirelessly at the A&P, riding her bike to work for years in order to help provide for her two children. Later, she became a successful car salesperson, breaking barriers as the only female salesperson among thirty others. She sold more trucks than anyone else and would always leave a rose on the front seat as a thoughtful gesture to the buyer. Even when faced with the challenges brought on by Multiple Sclerosis, Harriet's determination to contribute to her community only grew stronger. Inspired by her own experiences, she founded a non-profit organization called Cross Disability Advocates of Central Virginia, which aimed to support and advocate for individuals with disabilities.

Harriet is survived by her loving brothers, Wallace "Porter" Boone (Edith), David Lloyd Boone (Diane), and Raymond Boone (Sue). She will also be deeply missed by her children, daughter Tonya T Baldwin (Lonnie), and son Robert L Tutton (Karen). Harriet's legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Melissa Taylor Cannella (Tripp), Jason Taylor Brand, Robert Teak Tutton, and McKenzie Taylor Baldwin, as well as her great-grandson, Stephen Joseph Cannella III. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Piland Boone and Grace Louise Boone.

In her free time, Harriet had a passion for fishing, which brought her countless hours of joy and relaxation. She cherished those moments on the water, and counted on her catch phrase, 'Alowishy catch that fishy,' to reel in the best fish. Harriet also had a love for cooking that has been passed down through the generations, ensuring a lasting connection through food.

A memorial service to celebrate Harriet's life will be held on October 8th at 5pm at Bliley's, located at 6900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, VA 23224.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through the following link: [charitableInfo](https://www.nationalmssociety.org/).

Harriet Ann Showalter will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her selflessness, resilience, and love for others will forever be cherished and remembered. May her memory
be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all. Until we meet again, we will all carry on your favorite motto, always, 'Love, Love, Love.'
