So sorry to hear about Harry's passing. My rat year, Harry and Mae "adopted" me, constantly taking me out for dinner or bringing me candy when they visited post. They kindly let me stay with them for the VMI-Richmond Corps trip. Thanks for everything, Harry and Mae.

Thoughts and prayers are with the Augustine family. I am a 1st cousin to Mae. She and Harry were a handsome couple. Mae helped me write a family book for my mom when she was 90. Most of you are mentioned in that book. I hope you will all find peace and comfort; it is not easy to lose both parents.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Harry's family. Harry would always stop at my desk to chat when coming in to work in the mornings and when leaving in the afternoon at Jefferson Pilot. Harry was one of a kind. He will be missed by relatives and friends.

Your dad was a good man. When ever I was in the Lincoln office in Richmond and we saw each other, we would stop and make a point to talk. He would open open up with a smile asking: "How's it goin'" I in turn with a smile would answer: "It's a goin'" and we would talk for a while. Harry will be missed.

I am going to miss seeing Harry at Gayton Terrace. Although we would give each other a hard time, we would always end up laughing and end our therapy sessions with a hug. He was so proud of his family and of course, VMI!!! I am sorry I didn't get to say good bye. I know he is so happy to be reunited with Mae as he talked about her every day. My thoughts are with you and I am sorry I can not attend the funeral today. Sincerely, Stephanie (his Occupational Therapist )

Past Commander of the Lee-Jackson Camp No. 1 S.C.V., Harry Hamill Augustine, Jr. was an outstanding Commander. His accomplishments with updating and keeping the Confederate Memorial Chapel a centerpiece in the community was noteworthy of his dedication to the heritage of our Southern Confederate ancestors.

His military training at the Virginia Military Institute prepared him for the role that he would assume, defending the Country in World War II. He was an Aviator flying in the B-26 Marauder, doing 26 Combat Missions over the German held territory of Europe. The Army Air-Force Incurred more casualties, than the Marines or Army in World War II. Harry often wore his "397th Bomb Group" Ballcap, and his pride of service was sincere and humble, exhibiting the qualities of our servicemen from the "Greatest Generation". At the end of his life, he was filled with pride that he was going to donate his war medals to the Museum at the Virginia Military Institute. In October of last year, I was trying to arrange for Harry's participation in the Honor Flight, a WWII Veteran Event, taking those Veterans with sponsors to the monuments in Washington, D.C. - Sharing a day of memories of Service with other Veterans.

It was with deep honor to have known him, and to have talked with Harry about his Military Service. He was a Great American Hero, and a Defender of Southern heritage.

Dickie,
Although it has been many years, I remember your dad well, from sporting events at St. Chris to standing in front of Barracks at VMI. And I think a few times at Foster Stadium in the '90's. Usually in a blue blazer as I recall. God bless him and the inspiration he was.

Harry and I were close friends for over 20 years. He was a so proud of his service in WW II (Army Air Force), & was the recipient of numerous medals (for his service, and valor).

After the passing of his beloved wife, Mae, Harry's only thought was to be with her again. They are now reunited for eternity.

Rest in peace, old friend - I will miss you.
