Harry Cressman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2025.
The Cressman family is saddened to announce the passing of its patriarch, Harry Eugene Cressman, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 20, 2025 at the age of 93.

Born in Chattanooga, TN, Mr. Cressman was the son of the late Henry Eugene Cressman and Elma Jean French. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Cressman, and his precious grandson, Joe Harris. He missed them terribly.

Mr. Cressman leaves behind two daughters: Jean Meadows and Grace Harris (Greg), two grandchildren: Greg Harris, Jr. (Mimi) and Elizabeth Whitworth (Franklin), and six great-grandchildren: Adalynn Harris, Mick Harris, Sean Harris, Mary Harris, Victoria Whitworth, and Charlotte Whitworth. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Keller (Linda).

Mr. Cressman led an extraordinary personal and professional life. He married his high school sweetheart. He attended Florida Military Academy, Georgia Tech, and the University of Tennessee. He joined the Army in 1953 and went to Korea as a member of the finance corp. He later began a career at American Lava in Chattanooga. When American Lava merged with 3M, Mr. Cressman enthusiastically embraced a life that included several moves and extensive travel, both domestic and international. He most especially appreciated his time in Japan and his tenure as managing director of 3M Dominicana where he enjoyed the work, the people and learning Spanish in order to be more fully immersed in the culture around him. Throughout his life, he remained curious and interested in people and their stories.

Mr. Cressman enjoyed music, art, and following his alma mater, the University of Tennessee, during football season. Go Vols!

I want to add my condolences upon Harry's passing. While he was carrying the torch for 3M in the Dominican Republic I was the treasurer for the Latin America Region and enjoyed my working relationship with him. His quick dry wit was always available to lighten the working day and with Barbara we often spent fun evenings taking in the local culture. It was with Harry's suggestions that I ended up buying a place on the north coast that I would visit over a lot of years. I came to enjoy the beauty of the Dominican Republic and its people in large part through Harry. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the Jean and the Cressman family at the loss of an extraordinary man. Mr. Harry has made such a positive impact on my life with his kindness, honesty, and support. Out of the many residents I have cared for over the years, Mr. Cressman will always stand out as my favorite. Whether it was a fun fact, kind words, or a good laugh my spirit always felt lighter after speaking with him. I cherish the fond memories I have of Mr. Harry and am so grateful to have known him. Jean, you´ve went above and beyond caring for your dad over the years and it was so beautiful to witness. It has been a pleasure knowing you and your beautiful family. I send my love to you all during this very difficult time. May Mr. Harry continue to rest peacefully.
