HARRY FRANK Obituary

Harry D. Frank age 93 of Carroll, IA died at his home on August 2, 2010. He was born on September 4, 1916 at Sioux Rapids, IA and was the son of Harry W. and Agnes (Hagge) Frank. Harry was married to Verna E. Benton on June 22, 1941 at the home of the bride at Westside, IA with Rev. D.C. Davis officiating. As a young boy he attended and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1934. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army Signal Corp in 1942 where he served as instructor. While serving in the service he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being discharged from the military service he joined the family business of D.E. Benton Company in Westside, IA. In 1950 he purchased the Carroll Implement Co. After selling the implement business in 1961 he was employed as a district representative for the M and W. Gear Co. out of Illinois until his retirement. Following his retirement he worked with his wife in her accounting and financial business handling insurance and investments. Harry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an ordained Elder of the Church, a member of the Alfred R. Rossman Post of the American Legion of Westside, former Elks Lodge Member, Signet Masonic Lodge #264 A.F. and A.M., the Chapter, Council and Commandery, the Za Ga Zig Shrine of Des Moines, IA which he served as a Shrine Hospital Dad transporting children to the Shrine hospital and he was a Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Westside, IA. In his spare time he enjoyed reading newspapers, spending time with his wife and traveling.

Surviving are his wife Verna E. Frank of Carroll, a son Gerald B. Frank and his wife Carol of Panora, IA and two daughters LoaDawn Vincent and her husband Gene of Carroll and Diann Yoakum and her husband Rick of Omaha, NE, 6 grandchildren; Douglas Frank, Kurtlan Frank, Steffanie Frank, Michael Vincent, Suzanne Hider and Joseph Cellucci, and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Marjorie Bauer of Burlington, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lester and a sister Gertrude Schroeder, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with the Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Interment in the Westside Cemetery at Westside, IA. Military Honors were given by the Alfred R. Rossman Post 196 of the American Legion fron Westside, IA. Visitation was held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5 PM Wednesday where there was a prayer service and a Masonic Memorial service at 7 PM The casket was moved to the church at 8:30 AM on Thursday where the body lied in state until time of the service. Organist for the funeral was Mrs. Sally Patten. Casket Bearers; David Benton, Dillman Benton, Krutlin Frank, Michael Vincent, Doug Frank and Joseph Cellucci.
