I just learned of Harry's passing the other day on the radio. The last time I spoke with him he joked about his life and his condition. He always had a few laughs about everything. I'll miss him.

While I have only known Harry for a few years, each time we connected with Harry and Jeanne is a special memory. Harry was almost bigger than life--funny, smart, and loving. Even the last time we saw him in December, Harry maintained his great sense of humor and was handsome as ever with his thick head of great hair. The best decision Harry made was to marry Jeanne. He still loves you.
Harry will be sincerely missed, but always remembered.

Although I didn't know Harry well, having the honor of helping you with the drive to Salt Lake for his appointments let me get better acquainted with him. What a character he was. Even though he wasn't feeling well he had such a sense of humor and he really made me smile. I feel privileged to have known him as a friend. My heart goes out to you, Jeanne...please know that I cherish our friendship and look forward to better times for you. Harry and that great smile will be in our hearts always.

As a young Sailor in the 1980's I had seen a lot of his films. All of my friends aspired to grow a mustache of his caliber. At fourty-nine years old tomorrow, I am still trying to accomplish that feat. Fair winds and following seas, my friend. You will be missed.

I remember when Jeanne and Harry got together, thinking, "He has got to be pretty amazing because Jeanne is never going to settle for anything less." What a wonderful love and life you have shared together!! More to come. BTW, I have always been so proud to be part of your wedding...dress! So sad, yet so happy to reconnect. I met Herb when he was acting in an off-off-Broadway show in 1969, when I also stayed in his apartment on the lower East Side. We became friends, which was easy to do because he was so welcoming, and ended up sharing an apartment for a few years on West 24th St. I knew him as a "legit" actor, and I was around when he chose the name Harry Reems from a list of half a dozen candidates. But he has always been "Herb" to me (and Uncle Herbie to my son). Reems was just an additional coloring to an already colorful character, and he became a character in my first mystery novel. He gets killed in that book, but never in reality. In my memory he will remain alive and vital forever. -- Vernon Hinkle

I met Harry shortly before he married my sister Jeanne, in 1990. I'll always remember his bright eyes and big, warm smile. My favorite thing about him is how much he loved Jeanne and what good care he took of her. They had a wonderful life and a great time together. I know that they are together still. Bless you, Harry, for your courage and strength, and your open-hearted embrace of life.

I met Herbie in l969 in NYC when we were both involved with the Carnegie Rep company; he was playing Jimmy Porter in Look Back in Anger. We became great friends, dated for a while, and I remember what a fun Mom he had, too. I enjoyed reconnecting at the wedding of mutual friends in 1978 after my son was born. He was still goofy and fun, thoughtful and kind, and just wonderful to be around. I never knew him as Harry Reems, he was Herbie Streicher to our family. His death is untimely and painfully sad. My heart goes out to his wife, Jeanne, and to everyone whose world was a better place because he was in it. For a brief time back in the late 60s, mine was too. RIP dear old friend.

Harry will be remembered as a man who had the courage to fight for what he believed in. And he eventually won, in spite of the legal risks and the impact it had on his personal life. Jeanne is an angel who came to Harry and helped him make a new life -- a life that brought laughter and inspiration to their many friends.

Harry was such a great example of how Alcoholics Anonymous can change your life around. Harry was an active member and a mentor to a lot of people. He married a great gal and a dear friend to me. Loved his sense of humor and devotion to Jeannie. He will be missed. You never know who God needs to build his castle.

I am sorry I never got to personally meet Harry, but I feel like I know him well from the many years of e-mails from Jeannie telling me of his activities.
I am glad the two of you got to spend your lives together - because you clearly were the apple of each other's eye.

Jeannie, as much as it hurts to lose him, we know Harry is in a better place without the health challenges that marred his daily life for the past few years. Harry was an extraordinary man who helped us find the vacation home of our dreams in 1993 which is now our full time home. He and you became our first and dearest friends in Park City from that moment on. We have many wonderful memories of skiing, golfing, meals and traveling together. Remember that you were always his "goddess" and how much he loved you! All our love, Shirley & Craig

I was so sorry to learn of your beloved husband's death. My heart aches for you Jeanne. This must seem nearly unbearable. I remember so clearly your wedding picture: my mom got it right--- she said you were both just beaming! The love between you was just so obvious. You were both so blessed to find and love each other.
I regret so much that you and I haven't keep in better touch. I think about you often.
I know God will grant you the grace and mercy you need.
Love and prayers,

I interviewed Harry for just a few hours in 2005 and to this day. I still remember his immense charm, easy smile and rakish wit. His happy-ever-after story is something we can all aspire to and his legacy is vast--not just as the singular person he was in history, but also, more importantly as the warm and compassionate man he was throughout his life.

Harry was a great person who selflessly gave himself to everyone around him. I had suffered through an excruciating painful, extremely debilitating tragedy and thought Harry could help me work through the pain. He was enormously caring, helpful and even motivating. Because he was extraordinary special and inspiring, he will always live on in the many lives he helped enhanced. Harry may be physically gone, but will NEVER be forgotten. Rest in peace, dear friend. You improved my life when you entered it.

The debut of the Harry Reems Athletic Club occured January 12, 1980 as we participated in the Orange Bowl Marathon in Miami, Fl. We finished in 9th place out of 32 teams, a very respectible finish for three joggers from Hobe Sound. Of coarse we did not have permission from Harry to use his name. Twenty one years, thousnads of members and many many races later I finally got to meet Harry in Park City Utah. He had never heard of us and after I explained what we had all done he gave me permission to use his name. Since then we have basically become a group that travels by motorcycle to many of the events, rallys and motorcycle gatherings all over the United States. Every year we have an Annual Meeting of the HRAC during Bike week in Daytona Beach and always attract very large crowds. We would always stop and see Harry and Jeanne when our travels took us to the Park City area. I will always be grateful to Harry for letting us use his name, he was always very gracious to us during our visits and encouraged us with the activities that we pursued. God bless you Harry.

When first we met in summer, 2002, Harry welcomed us into his home in Park City like long-lost brothers. Three of us, riding motorcycles cross-country, spent about five hours with Harry in the middle of his business day, as he shared some of his favorite memories, and introduced us to a great little brunch nook in Park City's shopping district. A man of extraordinary humility and humanity, Harry was quick with a joke, as often about himself as anything or anyone else. On a return visit in August, 2005, Jeanne was able to join us for lunch. Over the years since, we met often by phone, e-mail, and cards. In August, 2011, were able to visit with Harry in Midway, when we learned of his mounting health challenges. But nary a word did we hear from him in complaint. In all of our meetings and correspondence, Harry always spoke of Jeannie with deep love and devotion, truly the love of his life. I will always treasure his memory, and think our group brought a good laugh into Harry's life, as it was and is about as improbable and extraordinary today as it was in 1980, when HRACLUB sprung from the mind of its Founder, Joe Semas. Harry has been a great friend, patron, and a man we have grown to love and respect for all he is. Simply the best. From all of us at the Harry Reems Athletic Club, God's Speed, Harry/Herb. You will be deeply missed, but you've earned all He has promised. R.I.P.
