Harry L. "Doc" Yost, 85, of Gypsy, passed away at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday (March 3, 2010) at his residence.
He was born at Jacksonburg, Feb. 16, 1925, a son of the late Harry Percy and Hazel Mae Shreves Yost.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred M. Stier Yost, on Sept. 19, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters, Margaret D. Yost, at home, Carla J. Wilfong and her husband Jerry, Enterprise; two grandchildren, Wendy Jo McNemar and her husband Timmy, Clarksburg, Dennis M. Wilfong and his wife, Kelly, Barrackville; two great-granddaughters, Brenna Wilfong and Alexandra McNemar; one sister, Gladys M. Durbin, Hundred; one brother, Franklin K. Yost and his wife Patricia, Gregory's Run; several nieces and nephews; and his special caregivers, Shelby King and Christina Mackey.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glen H. Yost.
Doc retired from CSX Railroad with 45 years service in the railroad industry. He was a WWII veteran having served with the United States Army and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 31, Shinnston, The Meusse Argonne Post No. 573 VFW, Clarksburg, Purple Heart Post No. 418, Clarksburg, the DAV and the senior citizens. Doc was very proud of and served on the board of directors for the Clay District Veterans Memorial, Shinnston.
Friends may call at the Perine Funeral Home, Route 19 South, Shinnston from 2-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. Interment will follow in the Lion's Club Cemetery at Lumberport where full military graveside rites will be accorded. The Perine Funeral Home is honored to serve the Yost family.
