Harry J. Zell Jr.

July 6, 1917 - July 6, 2016 Harry Joseph Zell, Jr., died peacefully on his birthday, July 6, 2016, at the age of 99, at Santa Teresita Manor in Duarte. Harry was born on July 6, 1917, in Los Angeles, CA. His mother was Elizabeth Mary Cantwell Zell and his father was Harry Joseph Zell, Sr. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Jane Zell Kunath (Greg) and son, Peter Belzer Zell (Carol Ann). He also leaves four grandchildren: Shelley Kunath, Jeffrey Kunath, Courtney Kunath, and Kirsten Zell, as well as his two great-grandsons, Caden Martin and Reid Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Mary Jane Belzer Zell; daughter, Gretchen Mary Zell; and son, Gregory Joseph Zell. Harry was born in Los Angeles and moved to Alhambra around 1927. He has remained a parishioner of St. Therese Church from that time to the present, living for 70 years in San Gabriel. He received a BS degree from Santa Clara University in 1939, and his medical degree from USC School of Medicine in 1944. He served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946 in World War II, and received a Bronze Star for bravery. He practiced medicine in San Gabriel as a general practitioner for over 50 years. Funeral Mass is today, at St. Therese Church, at 10:00 am with the interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Cabot & Sons, Pasadena Directors.
