Claremont - The funeral for Harvey L. Curr, 77, of Claremont will be 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, April 10) at the Zion Reformed Church of Amherst, with Pastor Glenn Raynor officiating. Burial will be in the Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be today from noon to 8 p.m. at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton, and one hour preceding the funeral at the church on Thursday. He died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Harvey Leonard Curr was born March 7, 1926, in Stena Township, Marshall County, S.D., to Ray Edward and Irene Monica (Geppert) Curr. As a youngster, he attended school in Amherst, and graduated Amherst High School in 1944. On March 24, 1945, Harvey married Darlene M. Stevens at Webster. They lived in Amherst until purchasing the Henry Docter Homestead in 1953. In 1965 they built a new home on that farm, and have lived there since that time. Harvey was a member of the Zion Reformed Church of Amherst. He was baptized there in 1948, with his oldest son, Curtis. He was active in the Sunday School program, and had served on the Consistory. Harvey had also served on the Amherst School Board for several years, and the Weston Township Board. He had been a member and past president of the Claremont Sportsman's Club. Their family had a cabin at Roy Lake for many years. He loved baseball and ice fishing. Bowling and golfing were also favorite pastimes. He was especially fond of his granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Harvey is survived by his wife, Darlene of Claremont; four sons: Curtis (Cindy) Curr of Gregory, S.D., Craig, Claude and Cordell “Cory” Curr, all of Claremont; one daughter: Cathryn Curr of Aberdeen; a brother: Raymond (Ione) Curr of Claremont; two granddaughters: Heather (Ryan) Rathjen of Lexington, Ky., and Heidi Jo Curr of Mitchell, S.D.; a great-granddaughter: Hunter Jay Rathjen; two nieces; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews. Casketbearers will be Irwin Symens, Dave Vietor, Burton Rademacher, Lyle Gorham, Don Tisher and Don Symens. The organist will be Shirley Symens, with special music presented by the Zion Reformed Men's Group.
