On March 2, 2022, God summoned His servant, Harvey D. Bullock, Sr. home. He was born August 7, 1945 to the late Louis and Betty Bullock in Nansemond (Suffolk), VA.
He attended Suffolk Public Schools and was a 1964 graduate of East Suffolk High School. Harvey earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Norfolk State University, Masters Degrees from Norfolk State University and Virginia Wesleyan College and was accepted in the Doctoral program at Regent University.
Harvey began his teaching career with Suffolk Public Schools at John F. Kennedy High School after graduating Norfolk State University. After working as a teacher for a few years, he started a thriving janitorial cleaning business, Tidewater Commercial Cleaning Services. The business grew so fast that he left teaching to run his business full-time. His commitment to the educational realm led him to return to education as an Administrator. He devoted over thirty years to Suffolk Public Schools before retiring in 2009. Harvey grew up in Canaan Baptist Church, where his parents were faithful members and confessed Christ at an early age. He later joined Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA. In 2001, he joined Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church and was a member of the choir and Men’s Ministry. He was also a professor at Angelos Bible College and was a current Board member.
He was preceded in death by his siblings: Shirley Alford, Mabel Stills, David Bullock, Betty Bynum, James Bullock, Michael Bullock and Kenneth Bullock.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Fannie Chamblis Bullock; he was preceded in death by his former wife Rebecca Bullock, the mother of Harvey D. Bullock, Jr., Erica Bullock and Aaron C. Bullock; three daughters by marriage: Casandra Chamblis, Calandra Porter Lee (Lorenzo) and Dr. Christie D. Murray; ten grandchildren: Janoria L. Sutton-Bullock, Alanna R. Porter, Seth A. Porter, Alonzo D. Sutton-Bullock, Ronald L. Chamblis II, Kendall D. Lewis, Jordan J. Bullock, Kameron Lewis, Andre D. Bullock and Jada S. Holloway; one brother; Steven W. Bullock; two sisters: Ruby Gwendolyn Davis (Eugene) and Christine Mack (Jimmie); four sisters-in-law: Marie Bullock, Mary Bullock, Grace Smolens, and Elvira Bullock; father and mother-in-law: Lamar and Flora Foshee; two brothers-in-law: Steve Bynum, Sr. and Cecil (Marie) J. McNear III; and a special god-daughter, Valerie (David) Burke. His big heart will be remembered by his aunt, Annabelle Tiggles and uncles, Spear (Mary) Bullock, Sr. and Thomas Bullock. He was “Uncle Harvey”, the favorite uncle, to his nieces and nephews. Harvey never met a stranger and was always willing lend a helping hand. He will be forever missed by his cousins, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
A viewing will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at Calvary Evangelical Baptist Church, 205 Gust Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23701. He will be laid to rest in Canaan Baptist Church. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
