Was great to see you guy's at this past weekends Memorial race in honor of Harvey. Havey was the BEST DAMN SKEETER racer of all time in my book and am proud to have known him. It's a honor and prevlidge to have been able to have raced with him. I have many fond memories of Harvey as as young man growing up close to the OLD Jacksonville Speedway Park here in Jax in the 60's watching him out run some of the the best...Jimmy Lee Capps, Herb Spivey, David Ezell,Tommy Moon, the Yarobough's and then in '70s after moving to Lake City I was able to live my life long dream and race against the ledgend at Lake City, Columbia County and North Valdosta-Thunderbowl Speedways. Harvey was such an intense racer and racing he did... from hot laps to the checkered flag of the last race...hope to see you guy's at many more races and know that Harvey is up there with Sambo, Alburey, Marlin, Hulon and the REST of the gang taking the crossed Checkereds again

I have many fond memories of Harvey Jones, (Jones Special 6). He was the first driver I saw with a uniform. White pants, & a white shirt, on the back in a arch up top it said Jones Special, in the center of his back was a number 6, below that in a arch was Tallahassee, Fl. All of the lettering was in blue. Matched that blue 6. I first saw him & his brother Hulon at 75 speedway, back then we all called it I-75 speedway. Harvey & Hulon did battle every week with Sam McQuaag, Eddie Mc Donald, a lot of others. Hulon lost his life in a racing accident at 75 spdwy. I was a Harvey Jones fan, my friend Harold was a Sam McQuaag fan. (Harold named his daughter after Sam). After 75 closed I watched Harvey at Thunderbowl. After getting grown I helped a friend of mine build a race car & race at Thunderbowl. We worked with the Cooper Bros. & their dad Johnny Reb., on the race cars. Then I got to know Harvey personally since he drove for Johnny and his brother James in the yellow 68. We raced at Thunderbowl, Pavo, LakeCity, & Waycross. Harvey helped us all a lot. He knew more about racing than anyone I had ever met. The last time I saw Harvey was several years back at the old Jax. raceways at Pecan Park. He said he remembered me, but I don't think he did. But I will never forget his wife telling me, "Harvey always asks me, what ever happened to that pretty little girl I married? She said I always say , "She ran off with a old man". I thought that was so sweet, they cared so much for each other, I know they will miss Harvey as we all do.
In my book, Harvey Jones was the best.

Dear Hazel & Family, I was from Jax and spent many a race Speedway Park and some at Lake City, but the Thunderbowl at Valdosta was the greatest of shows. Harvey was the Track Master. I was amazed at how he would jump cars from 6 to 68 and race again with just a wipe of sweat and win again and again. Another great show was seeing Brother Hulon racing side by side. Each trip to Valdosta was such a joy because of Harvey, Aubrey, Sam Mac and Eddie Mac. Memories for my lifetime. TIM COWAN, GARHOFA, JAX RACEWAYS HoF, & LIVING LEGENDS

Hazel & Family,
Harvey was an idol to so many kids and adults that loved dirt racing. My daddy was Raymond Futch, who passed in 05. He drove the jeep and wrecker for years at Thunberbowl.We were raised at the tracks as kids. It was an event to look forward to every Saturday. The memories burned in my mind of the Blue 6, and the yellow 68, will be with me til my days are done. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you deal with a great loss to your family and the racing world. If it is any comfort, your family member meant so much to us fans. He was truly a LEGEND. God speed Harvey Jones

Mrs. Jones & Family,
We are very saddened to here about Mr. Harvey's passing. But for anyone who knew him, knew that he was a good man,& a great racecar driver. We learned of his passing to late to make it to the funeral, however; he will be greatly missed. I have been a fan of his since I was in diapers, that was 44 years ago. He is definitely a legend that won't be forgotten. I would go to the races just to watch him race.(Valdosta,Lake City, & Cordele) I have a lot of good memories of Mr. Harvey & your family in the stands cheering him on. I got to see Mr. Harvey and Mrs. Hazel again a few years ago at the Drivers Reunion in Valdosta. I was happy that my kids got to meet the man that I had told so many racing stories of. Mr. Harvey seemed to like my daughter's hair up in that bun. So now she has her own good memory of him. We will keep your family in our prayers.
May God Bless and Be With You

We Love You

Leslie, Barbara Jean, David, Janie & Hazel,

I just heard the news this evening. Pam called from North Carolina. She heard the news through my cousin who lives in jacksonville and must have read about Harvey in the Times Union. I am so sorry that I didn't know until now. I would have been at the funeral.

Your dad and all of you are so much a part of our earlier years. Harvey gave us all a glimpse of a true racing legend. Those nights at the tracks were special to my mom, dad, Pam and I.

Please know that our prayers are with all of you. Also, I just had a thought. I'm sure he and my mom and dad are all having a good reunion by now.

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Harvey "PoPs" Jones. He was my childhood hero as my Dad and I spent many many nights and days watching him at the local race tracks. We never missed a saturday night at Thunderbowl, as I used to show up in my special made suit. Half blue, and half yellow, with the numbers 6 & 68 on the back that my Mom made for me. I looked forward to seeing him drive the wheels off of the "Blue Goose" and schooling the rest of the field. He was an amazing driver and man and I am proud of the memories he gave me over the years! God Bless him and his Family! My thoughts and prayers are with the family! But as for PoPs, I know he's dressed in his white racing suit, sitting behind the wheel of ole #6, with the perfect setup schooling them in Heavens Raceway as my Mother and Father cheer him on! Gods Speed Harvey Jones! Thank you for the memories! {\0/}

Please let me express my sincere sadness for the loss of Harvey Jones. My Father, Bill O'Neal raced with Harvey for a lot of years at tracks all over georgia & Florida. Harvey (as well as my father) was part of a generation that "made due" with what they had, they were the last of the self-made race car builders and drivers, there were no big money car or engine builders, these cats were tough & built it all by hand. I last seen Mr. Jones at North Florida Speedway last year and could still see the spark that made these type of men as tough as they were. He will me missed and his legend will live on. Gods speed Harvey Jones Sr.

We are so saddened to hear of the passing of Harvey. We were so young when we met you guys and as we look back at all the things we did; the fish fries, the cook-outs, the trips to James and Johnny’s, hanging out with Connie and Turner and the kids, Georgia and Raymond, Joyce and Emory, racing in Daytona with Don Williams and in so many other different places, sometimes Friday, Saturday and Sunday, then back to work on Monday. Oh my!
What an exciting time and look at all the fun we had. You are part of our extended family. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you as you work through this sad and difficult time. When I was a little girl, I remember my Daddy would say ya'll want to go to the races to see Harvey Jones! So, of course, he was always our favorite racer. I'm in my 40's now so that was a long time ago. My heart goes out to your family. May God bless you in your time of sorrow and may your memories bring you comfort.

I was friends with Connie when her daddy died and knew how important Harvey was to her at that time, the last time I spoke to him was when she died. At Centel, I had the priviledge of working with "Hot" for many years, he was a warm, surprisingly funny and caring man. A trusted friend to all. He will be missed by his family friends and to fans young and old. A real legend.
