HAZEL LEE HENDRICKS CHEEKS Hazel Lee Hendricks Cheeks was born September 2, 1933 in Columbia, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Cheeks; parents: J.W. and Mattie Hendricks; brother, Howard Hendricks; sister: Vera Bryant and Earnestine Barnes. Hazel was a teacher for the School City of East Chicago for over 27 years. She taught at Columbus and Carrie Gosch Elementary Schools. She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Alvin of Hammond; three daughters: Jacqueline (Robert) Powell of McComb, MS; Ms. Capucine Cheeks of Griffith, IN and Sharon Cheeks Lainier of Hammond; one step daughter, Dorsey (Booker) Hamilton of Pennsauken, NJ; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister, Helen Daniels of New Brunswick, NJ; sister-in-law, Mary L. Hendricks of Gary, IN; aunt, Esther Oatis of Oakland, CA; and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. (family hour 6:00-8:00) at Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, IN. Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1117 Merrill Street, Hammond, IN with Reverend Herman Polk officiating. Viewing 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment Fern Oak Cemetery, Griffith, IN.
