Hazel Ware Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2011.
Mystic - Hazel (Rogers) Ware, 96, entered heaven to be with her husband, Harold, on March 17, 2001. She was a resident of Mystic Rehabilitation Center where she had lived since 2009.

A longtime resident of Groton City, Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandmother.

Hazel was born on Sept. 30, 1914, in New London.

She married her husband, Harold, on May 5, 1939. He was her first and only true love. They enjoyed going to Grange meetings and square dancing.

Hazel graduated from Chapman Technical High School in 1931. She was skilled in domestics, was a remarkable seamstress, and enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Groton Grange, and Lodge of the Rebekahs.

Hazel was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and loved Frank Sinatra, Ronald Regan, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. She liked to watch the news, and she enjoyed doing puzzles with her friends at Mystic Rehab.

Her pride and joy were her sons, Richard and Robert. She recently had become a great-grandmother again with the birth of Marc Jr.

She leaves behind her sons, Richard (Marilyn) of North Stonington and Robert (Carolyn) of Groton; granddaughters, Melissa (Marc) Chubbuck of Ledyard and Mia (Shawn) Couture of Thompson, and a grandson, Michael (Crystal) George of Groton; great-grandsons, Marc Jr., Anthony George, and Giovanni Couture, and great-granddaughter, Lilly George.

Hazel was one of the most kind, patient women in this world. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, with a calling hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m., prior to the service on Wednesday in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London.

Richard and Robert, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mother tolerated a lot from us kids. It was always a treat to eat Sunday dinner during a hockey game or football game. I have still to find cole slaw as good as hers. Sadly, she would not give me her recipe, she was stubborn in that! Her heart touched many people, including mine. God bless the whole family.

To all of Hazel's family,
Your Mother/Grandmother/Great-Grandmother was my confidante and inspiration. Visits with her and your Father/Grandfather/Great-Grandfather, Harold, with Kimberly, Gregory, and our mailman, Dennis, were enchanting--Harold would don his top hat and cane and perform in their kitchen for my children.
God bless you, my dear friend, Hazel. I will remember you always.
Love, Pattie Filippetti Hnat

From Harold and Hazel's Westwood Dr., Groton City neighbors, Fritz and Lynn Poppe (and sons James and Mark): It has been a blessed priviledge living next door to Hazel and Harold. When we first moved into the neighborhood a dozen years ago, Harold offered many gardening and lawn care suggestions and recommendations -all of which we dutifully followed. We lovingly recall how Hazel used to walk her property, in the Sping to view the varied flowering trees Harold had planted alongside Westwood Dr., and, in the Summer and Fall to check on and harvest her kitchen garden. We happily anticipate our re-union with Harold and Hazel at Our Lord's Banquet Hall in His heavens. All Our Love, The Poppes.
