Heather Owens Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2024.
Heather Lynn Owens (Howard) passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 25, 2024, in Hallandale Beach, Florida at the age of 47. She was born on September 5, 1976, in Anderson, Indiana to (Burl) Glen and Janet (Bare) Howard. She married Michael Owens in Noblesville, IN on September 13, 2014.

Heather will be deeply missed by her family and friends including husband, Michael Owens, children, Justin Stoops and Hunter Rose, stepchildren Kristen (husband, Keith) Owens-Albracht and Nick Owens, grandchild Crew Stoops, parents Glen and Jan Howard, sisters April Hallatt and Stacy (husband, Tyler) Martin, nephews Landon and Garrett Cummings, and niece Marlowe Martin, as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by grandparents Lyle and Betty (Terhune) Bare, Burl Howard, Lundy and Irene (Matlock) Harvey, and aunt and uncle Dale and Vivian (Howard) Atkins.

Heather graduated high school in 1995 from Pendleton Heights High School in Pendleton, Indiana. She left a legacy in high school as a member of the Pendletones Show Choir and participated in Kids to Kids and AIM Club. Her love of animals began at an early age as she was a 10 year 4-H member and showed Netherland Dwarf rabbits at the Madison County 4-H Fair, Indiana State Fair and at national shows. She also participated in the rabbit royalty contest and was named the Madison County 4-H Rabbit Queen during her time in 4-H. Heather's deep love of animals continued to grow as an adult and she was active in rescuing many animals throughout her life- including her beloved pugs and guinea pigs. She earned her EMT degree from Ivy Tech Community College in 2015 and her paramedic degree from Orlando Medical Institute in 2019. She was also working towards a degree to become a certified veterinary assistant at Penn Foster.

Heather's career reflected her dedication and passion for service to others as well as her love of animals. She worked as a paramedic at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and a veterinarian technician assistant at ARK Animal Hospital. Previously, she was a teller supervisor at National City Bank/PNC Bank for 16 years in Indiana, worked at Amazon as an EMT On-site Medical Representative in Phoenix, Arizona, and worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida as an EMT for resort security and was a "Minnie Van" driver.

A Celebration of Life service will be held to honor the life of Heather on April 6, 2024 at Ovid Community Church, located at 793 E. 600 S., Anderson, IN 46013. Visitation will occur from 3pm to 5pm, with the service following immediately after at 5pm. For those who are unable to attend in person, the service will be available to watch online. Heather's final resting place will be within the columbarium at Grove Lawn Cemetary in Pendleton, Indiana.

Though our time together was brief, the kindness she exuded made a lasting impression. Heather was easy to talk to and have a conversation with. A fond memory I have with her was when Kristin and I visited in October. She took us to Disney World and we enjoyed a day at one of the parks. And at the end of the day, we enjoyed a super tasty dinner at the buffet followed by walking around to see folks dressed up in costumes and the rad pumpkins they decorated. Heather will be missed.

Heather was always so supportive and upbeat. She always had a comforting and encouraging word, and was always so delightful to hear from. She would send cards and gifts so freely. She had the kindest spirit and gentlest energy of anybody I have known. I miss her dearly; her final messages to me were so happy and hopeful. I am glad that she was in such a positive place, at the end.

She is wonderful, and will be remembered.

Heather was a huge support for me time and again over the years in my endeavors. She was always there to wish me well and be my cheerleader. Even though she said I inspired her to pursue her dreams, she truly is the one who inspired me, and others I´m sure. I will carry her love of life, her smile and her friendship within my heart as long as I breath. I´m so glad I told her how much I loved her every chance I could.

Something I learned from Heather is to pursue the things that make you happy and live every day as fully authenticly as possible. I had never met someone so fully herself every day of her life, until I met Heather.

The way she made my dad happy and the way she also brought out what he loved was truly inspirational and beautiful to watch. Heather and my father's love was an inspiration to all who witnessed it.

Heather will truly be missed.

I met Heather in 2013 through my brother William and we were instantly friends. Together with William, Dennis (Oz) myself and Heather we collectively referred to ourselves as "The Family " She was definitely the voice of reason amongst us and always there to protect us from ourselves and our own not so great ideas.
