Colonel (Ret.) Hector H. Henry, II, MD CONCORD - Hector Himel Henry, II, MD died on November 28, 2013, at CMC NorthEast. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Concord on Monday, December 2nd at 11:00 AM The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Wilkinson Funeral Home. Dr. Hector Henry practiced adult and pediatric urology for over 40 years, provided thousands of free sports physicals for our youth and stood on the sidelines as the team doctor for the Concord High School Spiders for almost two decades. A urology professor at Duke for 33 years and at Wake Forest University for seven, Dr. Henry has the distinction of being the longest-serving member of the North Carolina Medical Board. He has had various administrative roles at healthcare institutions, including the Vice-President of Medical Affairs at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center. Over the past two decades, his peers continually elected him among the Best Doctors in the United States, North Carolina and Charlotte community. He has received recognition for projects in prostate health and, as State Surgeon, for innovations in healthcare delivery in rural and impoverished North Carolina communities. Colonel Henry (USAR) served our country for over 40 years as an officer, medical provider and commander. His responsibilities included command of 5000 troops, delivery of healthcare to 30,000 troops and 50,000 enemy POWs, serving as Task Force Commander for all medical units in the Operation Enduring Freedom Area. Internationally, he supported the development of health and medical policies throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. Colonel Henry received many medals including Joint Commendation and three Bronze Stars for achievements in combat. His combat deployments included Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, the Second Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom. Councilman Henry served in various appointed and elected positions. He is currently serving his 17th year on Concord's City Council. A champion of children and an active philanthropist, Hector's leadership integrated the Boys and Girls club's sport programs. Prior to his leadership, female athletes had one option - cheerleading. Hector Henry II MD, MPH obtained his Doctor of Medicine with honors from Tulane University and his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Master of Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill. He completed his surgical internship at Charity Hospital, surgical and urological residencies at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic and Fellowship in Pediatric Urology at the Pediatric Urological Institute and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, England. Dr. Henry was the son of the late Dr. Hector Himel and Yvonne Vincent Henry. He was preceded in death by his sister Janie. Hector is survived by his wife Marjorie Benbow, three sons - Hector III, Brannan and Parr of Concord and three grandchildren - Viktor, Danielle and 'Hector' IV., sisters - Yvonne, Yvette and Susan Combs.
