Helen Conrad Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 9, 2009.
CONRAD, Helen Ester May 6, 1925. - April 4, 2009. Helen Ester Conrad (Freidrick) was born at Lamont Alberta May 6, 1925 to Gottlieb and Annie Freidrick. Her family moved to Lashburn, Saskatchewan where they farmed until moving to Lloydminster. Helen met her future husband Loran while she was working as a nursing aid in Saskatoon during WW II and Loran was training with the air force. They married and moved to Lloydminster after the war. Helen was a terrific wife, homemaker and loving mother to three sons and two daughters. She was a great cook and hostess. The Conrad home was the site of many wonderful gatherings and parties for family and friends. The tradition continued when they moved to Edmonton in 1966. Helen was well liked by all her neighbors and for 23 years they knew her as "The Avon Lady". She was a kind and giving soul and built close and long-surviving friendships. Helen's passing will leave a poignant emptiness in the hearts of all who appreciated her. Helen is survived by her sons Carman Conrad (Carol) and Terrance Conrad (Isobel), and her daughters Loesha Dodd (Bob Beatty) and Sheri Conrad; her grandchildren Tammy Templeton (Rick), Tosca Conrad, Carla Conrad (Ron Nixon), Travis Conrad (Jodi Miller), Sean Conrad (Trudy), Lee Conrad (Mary), Colleen Reib (Chris), Jeremy Conrad and Christopher Conrad and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Loran, oldest son Bronson (Rosa) and grandson Chad Conrad. The legacy of Helen's love will be cherished for many generations. Sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I think she and your dad needed to be together again. I never saw one without the other, and remember them as larger than life guests when we were younger. They were always kind to us and spoke with us kids when some other adults never bothered. I also remember them driving me home from the hospital one particular time. They had gone to visit my dad after his stroke. Kids weren't allowed in, so my mom left me in the waiting area downstairs when she had gone up. I first declined a ride from your parents saying my mom would take me home, but they told me she had left quite a while earlier. When you have six kids and lots on your mind, I guess its pretty easy to forget were you put them sometimes.
I'm so glad they attended my parents anniversary celebration with Sherry a couple of years ago. I hadn't seen any for quite a while, but they were great to see and I still felt wonderfully comfortale with them all.
My thoughts are with you all.
