Helen Cowling Obituary

Helen Marie Hallmark Cowling was born November 19, 1920 in Nashville, Arkansas. Her parents were Frank and Merle Hallmark. Mrs. Cowling was the widow of Leroy H. Cowling to whom she was married for 65 years. The couple resided in Port Arthur from after World War II until 1965. From Post Arthur they moved to the country between Orangefield and Vidor. Mrs. Cowling lived in their home for two year following Mr. Cowling’s death in 2004.

The very talented Helen Marie was a homemaker who also sewed for the public for many years in Port Arthur. In additions to dress and costume making, Mrs. Cowling upholstered, crocheted, knitted and quilted. In mid-life she took up painting in oils and acrylics.

Preceding Mrs. Cowling in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents and brothers, Eugene and Rephert and a sister-in-law, Sara Mae Hallmark. Her survivors include her two sons and daughters- in-law, Robert M. and Ruth Cowling of Groves and Randy and Rachel Cowling of Star, Ms. Other survivors are her 5 grandchildren; Ryan Cowling and wife Vikki of Bridge city, Randi Sticker and husband Benji of Port Neches, Ronda Burton and husband Robert of Brandon, Ms. Roslyn Acosta of Lawrenceville, Ga. And Romy Aguilar of Star, Ms. Her great-grandchildren are Bianca Acosta, Micie Aguilar, Cassidy Burton, Gabe Acosta, Adeline Aguilar, Nicholas Burch, Evie Sticker and Paisley Sticker. Also surviving her are a sister-in-law, Lila Hallmark, a niece, several nephews, numerous grand nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Mrs. Cowling went to her maker on August 28, 2008. She was 87 years old. A visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Restlawn Cemetery in Vidor, TX.
