Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2015.
Helen Faye (Barr) Cypher, 99, of Connellsville, Bullskin Township, passed to eternal rest peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2015, at her home. She was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late J. Roy and E. Faye Strouse Barr. Helen was a graduate of the Connellsville High School with the class of 1933. She had formerly worked for the former Troutman's Department Store in Connellsville and for Martin's Pharmacy in Butler. She was a very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Connellsville, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Katherine Francis Sunday School class. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and the Mother's Study Club, of which she served as president. The Mothers' Study Club provided milk to public schools to be provided to needy children. Helen was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her loving children, Kay Cropp, of Connellsville, Susan McConnell and husband, William, of Winter Haven, Fla., and Judy Schomer and husband, Mark, of Connellsville, with whom she resided for the last seven years; her grandchildren, Lynne LoGrande and boyfriend, Skeeter, of New Jersey, Dr. John Cropp and wife, Anne, of Madison, Conn., Cathy Tangretti and husband, David, of Greensburg, David McConnell, of Penn Hills, and Douglas McConnell and wife, Dori, of Norfolk, Va.; her nine great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandchild. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, John H. Cypher; Edward and Katherine Fenstermacher, who raised her; her brothers, Kershner, John, Richard Barr and Stuart Fenstermacher; and her sister, Marion Fenstermacher. Helen was cared for and loved by her caretakers Donna, Marie, Tracie, Marge and Sandy. The family would also like to thank Amedysis Hospice for their care and compassion, especially Rita, Lyndsey, Lori, Chelsea and Pastor Maley. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC. 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, 724-628-1430, the hour of a funeral service, with the Rev. David Ealy officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 417 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, PA 15425, in memory of Helen Faye Cypher.
