Helen Dudley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2022.
Helen Rachel Hockett Dudley, 92, passed from this life into life eternal on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born on July 20, 1930, in Campbell County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Aistrop Hockett and Sarah Louise Creasy Hockett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Linnie R. Dudley Sr.; and her sister, Dorothea Hall.

She graduated from E.C Glass High School and attended Phillips Business College. She worked for Central Virginia Training Center for many years as Assistant to the financial director prior to her retirement. She was a long-time member of Madison Heights Christian Church and loved singing in the choir. She loved to read (and always had a Bible and dictionary nearby), was a member of the Garden Club, loved to cook big Sunday and Holiday meals for her family and loved dedicating her time and talents to serving others. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by three devoted sons, Linnie R. Dudley Jr. and his wife, Judy Beth Loving Dudley, David Carroll Dudley Sr., and Kelley Walter Dudley; two grandchildren, Janie Elizabeth Camilla Dudley (Gary) and David "Bo" Carroll Dudley Jr. and his wife, Sarra Dawn Dudley; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel and Walker Argenbright and Megan Aderholt.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be conducted on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Reverend George Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen was a Hockett, but the Wright family claims her. She was married for 61 years to Linnie R. Dudley, whose mother was Rosa Estelle Wright. Helen faithfully attended Wright reunions, was knowledgeable about the extended Wright family, and was a good friend to many. I spoke with Helen in January 2022. She told me that she had led a wonderful, even blessed life, that she had felt loved and supported throughout her life. She expressed the belief that we are all given talents and that a large part of a successful life is the development of those talents. Helen told me that she had strived to use the talents given to her by her Creator and that doing so had contributed to her happiness. Helen was blessed with good health and a good mind for all of her 92 years. May we all be so blessed. My sincere condolences to Linnie, David and Kelley, and all of the Dudley family.

Helen was a wonderful, caring friend. We prayed for each other and talked often. Her suffering is over, she is Finally Home with our Lord and her husband. She will be missed not only by her family but her friends.
