Helen Higgins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 29, 2023.
Helen M. Higgins passed away peacefully at her home in Redondo Beach on May 28, 2023. Helen was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 7, 1931. She was the oldest daughter of Phil and Helen Costello and spent her early years growing up in Philadelphia with sisters Phyllis and Betty. Helen was in high school at a dance in 1947 when she met Frank Higgins, the love of her life. Frank and Helen were married in 1952 and the journey began. It was a wonderful ride filled with much joy, laughter and love. They kept on dancing until Frank's passing in 2021.

They moved to Albuquerque, NM in the early 50's when Frank was in the Air Force stationed at KAFB. Helen worked numerous civil service jobs during her years in Albuquerque and Frank had a long and successful career at Sandia National Laboratories. They raised their four daughters (Linda, Trisha, Theresa, Carol ) in Albuquerque and made a permanent move to Redondo Beach in the early 1990's. Helen continued working and was administrative assistant to several of the Commanders (Generals) leading LAAFB. Helen stayed active throughout her years in Redondo taking long walks with Frank on the strand, enjoying the ocean breeze and happy hour on their patio with a view of the sunset. Helen enjoyed large family gatherings and particularly the closeness of family during the holidays. She loved to shop and Christmas time was her favorite time of year, always showering gifts on her family.

Helen is survived by her four daughters, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren (with a third arriving soon), as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She will be missed by all and lives forever in our hearts.
