Helen Bell Major

Mrs. Major was a huge inspiration in my sisters life during her stint at Link elementary in the 80s. During this time is when I had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Major. Although she was never my teacher, every-time I saw her she would say "Hey you are Tracy's brother aren't you?" Yes ma'am I would reply. I saw here again a few years back and she saw me, stopped and like clock-work said "Hey you are Tracy's brother aren't you?" I smiled and said yes ma'am. She was a special person and will always be remembered.

I am just today (8/7/2014) learning of Mrs. Major's passing. I am soooo sad to learn about this. Such a beautiful woman, such a sweet and gentle spirit. May a peace beyond all understanding envelope her family and hold them close through this difficult time. Bridget Evans-Parker

My prayers go out for her family. What a lovely and inspirational woman. I was blessed to have her as my field supervisor this year as I pursued teacher certification, and she was such an encouraging force from day one. I will keep the notes she wrote to me after each visit and remember her smile and convincing "you can do this" as I move forward in my teaching career. I am so thankful for her support.

Mrs. Major was amazingly supportive as an intern supervisor and she made me a better teacher! She will be missed greatly!

Mrs. Major was my Field Supervisor just this past semester while I was doing my Student Teaching. She was able to put me at ease and make me feel as though I was doing a great job. I know I will carry her advice as I go into many years of teaching. My sincere condolences to her family. What a wonderful person and mentor she was to me and I am sure many others!

My favorite teacher of all time. I'm now 43 and a teacher myself and I constantly say to myself, "what would Mrs. Majors do in this situation?" She touched so many lives and her memory will go on for years to come. Prayers to her friends and family as you miss her presence, but feel comfortable that she is watching over you from Heaven and prepairing your forever home.

I was one of the fortunate souls to have Mrs. Major as a mentor. God bless her and her family. She was a bright light. I will do my best to honor her by keeping her light shining in the classroom.

Helen was my principal program mentor. She was a wonderful mentor and I so enjoyed our conversations during my study. I know she left a big legacy in education, and she will continue to live on through the lives of all her students and teachers who had the opportunity to learn from her. I worked with Helen at Anderson and Clark Elementary Schools. My son had her as a teacher at Anderson. She was truly one of my favorite people.

My 5th grade teacher back in the 80's. All I can say, is that you were a blessing to each and eveyone of your students, you were a very caring, loving and woman of God. I remember the talks that we had during recess time when I didnt want to go out and play, and everything that you told me I lived from that, yes I was only 10 or 11, but your comforting words stuck with me throughout my entire life.
Thank You Mrs. Major and may you rest in eternal peace.

I ran into multiple times after I left Link, even after graduating college, and I always let her know the impact she had on my life. Thank you Mrs. Major, may you rest in peace.

Mrs. Major was my 5th grade teacher in 1993-1994. She was an amazing women. She is one of the main reason why I'm on my 7th year teaching. The loss of a loved one is never easy. May God provide you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

A brilliant smile, a warm hug, and a caring spirit will always be my fondest memory of Helen-for she would never let me get by calling her Mrs. Majors. She and Tipp were always so generous in sharing appreciations and support to all the staff at Helen Major Elementary School, her namesake. She's a one of a kind, and will truly be missed. We have been blessed to know her and have special smiles and memories to treasure always, until we meet again.

I did not know Helen that well but I have lived close to you and your family for many years and all I can say is what a wonderful homecoming Helen is having now. Just as she was physically, Helen was a beautiful person spiritually. When she was a member of Pleasant Grove Church, she gave me my first ever surprise baby shower. I am truly grateful to God for having placed her in my life. I will never forget her sweet spirit and generosity.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Major. She was the principal while my son attended Clark Primary and Clark Intermediate. I also served as a PTO mom under her tutelage. She was such a special lady and I looked forward to meeting with her monthly. Her smile and laughter always kept us going. My prayers are with the entire family. God Bless!

I knew Helen growing up in the same neighborhood in Alexandria, LA. She was a fun-loving friend. Having lost touch over the last few decades I am pleased to read about her outstanding accomplishments, and the wonderful life she made for herself. Rest in Peace old my friend.

Helen was a great person that was the principal for my mom (Belena) as she taught at Clark Elementary and this year Helen was my Region IV field supervisor as I became a teacher. As I remember her I know that having her as my field supervisor was meant to be as I can picture no one else now guiding me through my first year of teaching. She was sweet, caring, understanding and patient with me and my tons of questions. My mom and I both will miss her.

Heaven received an angel on Thursday. She was such a sweet lady and a wonderful mother. I'm blessed to have known her through my best friend, Tiff.
