Helen McDermott Obituary

MOUNT HOLLY - Helen Pauline Klezek McDermott, formerly of Burke, Va. and Revloc, Pa., passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2015.

Born September 5, 1916, Helen was the daughter of the late Sophia (Ziobro) Klezek and Joseph Klezek.

She was preceded in death by husband J. Donald McDermott, daughters L. Jane McDermott and Ann P. McDermott, granddaughter Lynn (Scanlan) Mavilia, sisters Mary (Klezek) Croyle, Nellie (Klezek) Descavish and brothers Stanley Klezek and Edward Klezek.

She is survived by daughter Helen (McDermott) Scanlan of Hagerstown, MD and son Joseph J. McDermott and daughter-in-law Laurie of Mount Holly, NC, sisters Jennie (Klezek) Masnica and Mildred (Klezek) Tanish, granddaughters Heather (McDermott) Newon, Mary Jo (Scanlan) Bartles, and Terri (Scanlan) Focht, 6 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was a vibrant and lively woman whose kindness and love of life touched everyone she met. She made fast friends wherever life took her with her engaging smile, infectious laugh, and her honest concern for those around her. She was a woman of many talents: a skilled seamstress, an excellent cook, and a gifted artist who painted well into her golden years. While she had many dear friends and diversions to keep her busy, her family was always her greatest joy.

Helen's later years were blessed by the loving care and devotion that she received from Elaine Eblen. The family is also grateful to the staff at Gaston Adult Day Care in Mount Holly, N.C for the enriched environment and individual attention they provided for her.

We may grieve that she is gone, but we take comfort knowing that hers was a life well-lived.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont.

A Mass of Christian burial and committal service will be held in Ebensburg, Pa. at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Gaston County Adult Day Center – East Gaston located at 1122 S. Main St. in Mount Holly, NC 28120. 704-827-9148.

Joe and family: So sorry for your loss. i really got to know her when i was at the East Gaston Center. I loved playing cards with her. Don't ever let the face fool you-she was one heck of a card player. Now she is playing at the round table. Will miss her.
