Helen Quirk Obituary

Helen D. Quirk, 85, of Cumbola, passed away peacefully Tuesday on her birthday at the Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Tucker Hill, New Philadelphia, Dec. 29, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Loretta Haughney Gay.

She was a graduate of J.W. Cooper High School, Shenandoah.

Before retiring, Helen was employed as a trimmer in the local garment industry and a dietary aide for the former Pottsville Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Harry Gay; four sisters, Emily Bernitsky, Mary Sinkus, Julie Kilker and Beatrice Caulfield.

Helen is survived by her husband of 64 years, P.J. Quirk Jr., Cumbola; sons, Pat Quirk, Cumbola, and Kevin Quirk, Hometown; a daughter, Colleen and her husband, James Calabrese, Palo Alto; five grandchildren, Kristopher, Rachel and Kayla Quirk, and Jason and Janelle Calabrese; a great-grandchild, Madison Quirk; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, New Philadelphia, with the Rev. Ronald Minner as the celebrant. A viewing for family and friends will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. There will be no calling hours Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
