Helen Rogel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 10, 2024.
Helen Louise Rogel, 89, of Nashville, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2024 at Brookdale Belle Meade in Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Daniel A Rogel.
Helen was born on May 4, 1934, in Hydetown, PA, to the late Emma and Daniel McElhaney. She was also preceded in death by her brother Danny McElhaney, and her sister Hazel Bossard.
She received her BS in nursing from Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and worked as a surgical nurse at The Cleveland Clinic until she married Daniel A Rogel in 1959. They moved to Elkton, Ky in 1966 with their family.

Helen was a loving and caring individual who gave selflessly to her community. She became a full time homemaker after moving to Elkton, and yet found many ways to volunteer her time. She was a Girl Scout leader, helped with Red Cross blood drives, helped coordinate the Todd County Sesqicentennial and was instrumental in helping start "Friends of the Library". She also found time for Relay for Life and the Todd County Women's Club among other things.

Helen was a member of Petrie Memorial United Methodist Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. She volunteered in the church wherever she could and especially loved helping prepare meals and serving others in this way.

In her free time, Helen indulged in various hobbies including crafts such as sewing, ceramics, macrame, painting, and crochet. She also loved to travel and enjoyed club lunches with friends. However, her greatest joy came from spending quality time with her family, especially her great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Renee Robertson, and son-in-law Ken Robertson; her son, Brian Rogel; grandchildren Emma and Tyler
Litton, David and Blossom Robertson, Sarah and Brandon Pierce, Hannah Robertson and Carson Lassiter, and Jesse Robertson; and great-grandchildren Tennessee & Violet Litton and Selah & Ezra Pierce.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15th, from 2-4 PM at Latham Funeral Home in Elkon, KY , followed by a short service. Contributions in Helen's memory can be made to Todd County Friends of the Library.
