Helen E. "Kitty" Russell

ORLEANS - Helen E. ''Kitty'' (Kearns) Russell, 91, died Oct. 27 at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Chatham.

Mrs. Russell was born in Stamford Conn. and graduated from Stamford High School in 1932 and Stamford Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford and while on Cape Cod as a private duty nurse. She was a longtime resident of Springdale, Conn., moving to Orleans in 1974. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Church, Stamford, Conn., and a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Orleans where she was very active with the church thrift shop. Mrs. Russell was an active campaigner against steroid abuse.

She enjoyed traveling, flower arranging, rug hooking, crosswords, playing cards with friends, and trips to Foxwoods. She was also a Liberace and Elvis fan.

She is survived by her children, George Russell of Townsend, Mass., Wayne Russell of Stamford, Conn., and Donna Knight of North Eastham; three grandchildren, Kris, Steven, and Carla; and six nieces and seven nephews.

Visitation will be held in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Joan of Arc Church, Canal Rd., Orleans, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
