Helen Maturo Sease (Helen Humphreys Maturo)

December 3, 1948 - June 1, 2024

Helen Maturo Sease, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Charleston, South Carolina, on June 1, 2024. She was 75 years old.

Born on December 3, 1948, in New Jersey, Helen lived a life defined by love of family, strength, and an unwavering authenticity. She had a gentle grace, a sharp sense of humor, and a quiet resilience that touched everyone who knew her.

Helen was a graduate of Charleston High School and The University of South Carolina. She devoted her career to teaching, serving in public schools in South Carolina and Oregon, where she made a lasting impact on generations of students. Her greatest dedication, though, was to her family. She raised four children-Joseph, John, Thomas, and Margaret (Anna) Sease-with love, compassion, and enduring strength.

She is proceeded in death by her brother Joseph Maturo, mother Helen Humphreys Maturo, and father Joseph Seraphino Maturo.

She was briefly survived by her husband of 52 years, John Carlton Sease, and is lovingly remembered by her children, her sister Elizabeth Hutton, and her four grandsons. Helen's legacy lives on in the lives she shaped and the family she cherished.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Helen's life will be held the first weekend of September at her former residence on Sullivan's Island. Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories in honor of her extraordinary life.

My deepest sympathies to all. Helen always reminded me of a river - so calm on the surface with hidden depths. I´m truly sorry you have lost her so soon

I am so sorry to hear this. I worked with Helen at Alsea School District for several years....she was always so pleasant to be around. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
