Joan Katherine Secard passed away on December 31, 2021, in West Covina, California at the age of 83. She was with loved ones by her side and in her beloved home at the time of her passing.
Joan was born August 11, 19938 in Utica, New York. In her early twenties she and her parents moved to Southern California to join other family members. She remained in California for the rest of her life, where she spent 28 years working in the family business.
Joan, known as Amema Joan to her family and friends, took her greatest joy in life from being around her large and loving family. Christmas was the happiest time of year for Joan, as she loved decorating and hosting the family in large gatherings at her home. She was the unofficial custodian of the Secard family history and spent hours researching her ancestors and their stories. She loved passing down these legacies and family traditions to the rest of the family, ensuring that everyone remembered and appreciated those who came before.
Joan was an amazing cook, and specialized in the traditional dishes of Syria, the family’s ancestral homeland. She enjoyed travelling and seeing the world, especially on the numerous u cruises she would take with her brothers George and Ed.
Joan had a large group of lifelong friends. For many years, these friends would get together weekly to swap stories and play Bunco, her favorite party game. Joan also dearly loved the several dogs that she had over her lifetime, treating them as true members of the family.
Joan is survived by her brothers Joe, George, and Ed, her nieces Laurie, Mary, Jill, Bridget, Jodi and Kimberly, and her nephews Eddie and Chris. She was preceded in death by her father Edmond Secard, mother Antoinette Secard, brother Fred Secard, and nephew Robbie Secard.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022, in the Chapel of Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary, located at 2161 Fullerton Road, Rowland Heights, CA. Mass is scheduled for 1:00PM, followed by graveside services.

Joanie was not only a dear friend, but also she was like a sister. She taught me alot about working in the family business. We will no longer hear your voice, but our hearts will speak to you everyday. May God bless and keep you always.
