Helene “Lee” J. Montgomery, 75, of Ardmore died September 1, 2022.
Helene was born September 10, 1946 in Bronx, New York, and graduated from Walton High School in 1965. In 1974, Helene moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma to raise her children. It was there she spent 24 years as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service before retiring. She loved her career with the post office and especially enjoyed being outdoors and interacting with the members of the community on her routes.
Helene was known as a talented crafter and enjoyed many hobbies over the years. She was always working on something, whether it be stained glass, ceramics, macrame, quilting, or card-making. Creating and gifting handcrafted items was her love language and undoubtedly many friends and family have been the recipient of her thoughtful gifts.
Helene is pre-deceased by her parents John and Helen Wendling, and one son, Michael Thornbury. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, David Montgomery of Ardmore, daughter Lisa Drake of Texas, son Robert Cestaro of California, brother John Wendling, Jr. of Oklahoma, sister Joan Middleton of Oklahoma, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and niece and nephews.
A Gathering of Remembrance for Helene "Lee" Montgomery will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Centennial Chapel of the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.
