Helga M. Hermann

Fort Myers - Helga M. Hermann, 94, passed away in her sleep on July 4, 2018 at the Inn in Cypress Cove Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Born in Buffalo, she was the daughter of Edwin Sy, a rare book dealer and Maria Kampeter Herlinghausen. She spent her early years in Germany and later Buffalo and was a graduate of Buffalo State Teachers' College. She met her future husband, William M. Hermann, through mutual friends. They married in June, 1947 and moved to Baltimore to begin their teaching careers.

She taught art in the Baltimore City Public Schools System and was later named art supervisor. Her husband was an industrial arts department chairman in the Baltimore County Public Schools. They lived in Towson, before moving to Bangert Avenue in Perry Hall in 1956. After retiring in 1986, they relocated to Ft. Myers, Florida.

Mrs. Hermann enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, reading, traveling, and taking vacations. Her family is especially grateful for the kindness, compassion, and expert care provided by the Cypress Cove community during her years of residence.

Survivors include a son, William M. Hermann, Jr. (Faith) of Relay, Maryland and a daughter, Catherine Fox (David) of Indialantic, Florida; granddaughter, Jacquelyn Dropek (Ryan) and grandson, Dustin Rouillard of Richmond, Rhode Island; two great- grandchildren, Nathaniel and Sonia; a half-sister, Evelyn Childs of Fountain Valley, California, in-laws Joyce and Joe Hassler, sister-in-law Gloria Gorguze, niece Lynn Gorguze Peters, and nephews Jim and Tim Hassler. She is predeceased by her niece Rebecca Pike and her husband of 50 years who died in 1997.
