Helga Hershey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2025.
Helga Alden Hershey, of Washington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1935, the second child of Ilse and Alfred Alden, she emigrated with her family to the U.S. in 1942, finally settling into a happy childhood in New Rochelle, NY.

She graduated from the Brearley School in 1952, then studied Art History in Paris before transferring to Barnard College, graduating in 1956. Helga was one of the first women to attend Harvard Business School.

Helga devoted her career to education, finding meaning in its transformative power. A lover of travel, art, and gardens, Helga appreciated beauty, especially opera, a passion shared with her daughter, Suzy. She found faith and friendship as a parishioner at Salem Covenant Church in Washington, Connecticut.

Helga is survived by daughters Suzanne Gould and Nina Gould, and was predeceased by their father, Maurice Stevenson Gould, Jr., and her second husband, Peter Hershey.

A memorial service will be held at Salem Covenant Church on Saturday, November 22nd at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to After School Arts Program, Inc. (ASAP!) at https://asapct.org/donate/.

I am so sorry to hear of Helgas passing, I wish I would of known. I took care of Helgas hair for over 20 years. I will miss seeing her at the salon!

Helga was a lovely person, singing in the choir at church and taking part in Vacation Bible School during the summer. I remember her kindness in inviting all the children back to her house to enjoy her pool! Loved seeing her in church lately, and very sad to hear of her passing.
