Sandy,
Gene was an era... .
No one could arm wrestle like he could.
Our good times were so so numerous to mention that I have been thinking of them one by one over the past week.
He was a unique, brilliant and funny man. Most of all he was kind and gentle. Any one who could put his face up to a Rottweiler with ease is someone you don't want to mess with.
We loved him very much and hold him close to our hearts. We are glad we were able to see you both a few weeks ago.
We are so very sorry for your loss,
Love,
Tony, Kathie and Pal..
Centavo personally greeted him as did Muscles ( Tommy's Rottweiler!).Lets not forget the blow up doll at the LA Athletic Club for one of his birthdays!

Gene is someone I will always remember...if not for marrying my sister 25 years ago, I would not have experienced his "Famous meatloaf, chilly and spaghetti recipes", wow what a cook. Because of Gene he made me aware of the extreme USC, UCLA, and ND rivalries. Gene loved his Dodger baseball and Laker basketball games and always had an opinion on how the games should be played. I truly enjoyed watching the games with him over the years. But, most of all he loved my sister Sandy as much as she loved him. We will all truly miss you Gene as I know I always will!!! Party on Gene!!! Love Steve

"Gino" as I fondly called him over the years, was a wonderful son-in-law and a true gentleman. When my husband past away in 1998, I stayed with him and my daughter Sandy at their San Dimas home. He would make breakfast and dinner for me to insure I was well taken care of during that difficult time as well as during the many years to follow. I remember well the many songs we sang together and he had a very lovely voice. One of our favorite songs was "I Will Remember You" and that will always be the case in my heart.

My Dad was a great man, hard working, funny, and set a good example of how to great people. I adored him and cherish theoments when I know I brought happiness to his life.

Dear Sandy,
When Gene came back to the County in 63, he and I worked closely together on a bunch of projects. I considered him a true friend from that time on. He brought a sense of calm and reason to all things. That was especially helpful when Baxter Ward wanted to buy a train. The County is a much better place because of him. Bless you. Dick Schoeni

To Sandy and Gene's families,
It was an honor and privilege to have known this incredible amazing human being for the past eleven years.
His compassion, intellect, humor, and humanitarianism were deeply admired.
To quote an old Native American saying--"You are never gone until you are forgotten."
Gene, your presence will live on; never to be forgotten.

David and I send our condolence to Sandy, his family and friends. We enjoyed every time we had with Gene. His smile was infectious and his love of good food and wine unsurpassed. I know Gene is now with our beloved Joan and they are both watching over us all. RIP Gene. We will miss you.

I believe I first met Gene in 1964 when the CAO assigned him to cover my activities and make sure I didn't get the County into trouble. The first thing I remember he told me about himself was that his mother was a Nun. He enjoyed the shock value of that bit of information -- and would usually leave it at that -- without a further explanation....

I will always remember Uncle Gene's mischievous smile and his great joy when surrounded by those he loved. His love for people and animals knew no bounds. Thank you for all the love and happy memories. You've made an impact on me and on the world that is positively priceless.
