Henry Bayne Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 4, 2025.
Abilene - Henry Bayne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was born on March 9, 1939, in Staunton, Virginia. After a life dedicated to God, family and work, Henry passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 86, leaving behind a memory of dedication, humor and sacrifice.

Henry grew up in Staunton, Virginia, where he attended school. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Henry served his country with honor and distinction. His commitment to service reflected his deep love for his nation and the values it represents. While stationed at Dyess Air Force Base, he met Sandra Earp, and they married on October 27, 1961, at her parent's home in Abilene. Their 60+ years of marriage spoke of his dedication and commitment to his wife and his family.

Henry had many careers in his long work life and was still working almost until his last day. He was currently working for Texas Pioneer Title of Abilene, where he walked in every day with his Bible, sweet tea and donut holes. He was the "grandpa" to his co-workers, who cherished their time with him. He was a life-long dog lover and had many dogs in his lifetime. He kept a box of Milk Bones in his car so he could feed the "office dogs" at the various real estate offices that he visited. Henry was a man of few words but when he talked, he did so with conviction. Known for his infectious laughter and warm smile, he brought joy to every gathering, reminding us all to celebrate the simple pleasures in life. He was a member for many years at Baker Heights Assembly of God Church, where his father-in-law, pastored. He later joined North Park Assembly of God and had worshipped there for many years.

Henry is survived by his devoted spouse, Sandra Bayne; two daughters, Tammy Bayne Kister and partner Terri Scott and Terri Dawn Bayne; grandchildren, Timothy Kister and wife Lori, Tarah Chapman and Tanner Bayne; great-grandchildren, Keely Kister, Logan Kister and Janelle Annette Bayne; his fur-babies, Scrappy, Little Mama, Snowball, Cocoa, Ziggy, Dudley and Katana.

As we bid farewell to a beloved figure whose life was a rich tapestry of love, laughter, and service, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our lives and that he now has "a mansion, just over the hilltop." Rest in peace, Henry. You will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Bayne, Rebecca Hinkle Bayne; sisters, Nancy Fogleman, Lillian Shiplett; brothers, Bill, Roy, and Ernie Bayne.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6 at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene Texas 79606.

A private graveside service will be held at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2025, at North Park Assembly of God Church, 1902 Jameson Street Abilene, Texas 79603.

The family suggests with gratitude that memorials be made to North Park Assembly of God Property Fund, 1902 Jameson, Abilene, Texas 79603 or Venmo @NorthPark-AssemblyofGod.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of our time spent at Baker Heights and still remember the day Tammy and I got baptized. Thinking of you and sending love.

I remember you and my mother playing piano and organ. Those were the good old days.
