Henry F. Bellaci, MD, FACC

Rancho Mirage - Henry F. Bellaci, MD, FACC, age 75, of Rancho Mirage, passed away on August 21, 2018, after a long illness and suffering a massive stroke.

Born in New Orleans, and growing up in Independence, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Isadore and Josephine (Levatino) Bellaci, and husband to Jeanette Bellaci.

Dr. Bellaci studied pre-med at South Eastern Louisiana University, graduating with a BS in 1965, continuing on to receive his MD from LSU Medical School in 1969 and completing his internship, residency and fellowship in the US Army, at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX and Letterman Army Medical Center, Presidio of San Francisco in California from 1969-1978. Dr. Bellaci was Board Certified in 1973 in Internal Medicine, and in 1975 the subspecialty of Cardiovascular Diseases, before receiving an honorable discharge in 1978, achieving the Rank of Lt. Colonel; and in 1983, he was inducted into the American College of Cardiology.

Henry loved teaching and was an Educational Lecturer from 1978 until his retirement in 2015. He served from 1976 to 1988 at UCSF Medical Center, as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and later, Associate Clinical Professor. From 1979 to 1989, Henry went into private practice, joining Redwood Cardiology, in Castro Valley, California, and was on staff at 8 hospitals, and the Director of 2 ICU's.

On October 20, 1984 Henry married Jeanette (Mabus) Drake and joined their two families to become a family of 7; 1 son and 4 daughters, and countless cats and dogs.

In 1989, Henry and Jeanette moved to Rancho Mirage, California where Henry became Chief of Staff for Desert Medical Group. In 1997, the cardiology department was outsourced to Los Angeles Cardiology Associates; where he remained on staff until 2007. Henry served as Chairman of the Education Committee at Desert Regional Medical Center and later served as Chief of Staff, from 2004-2006. Henry also served on various committees while he was a staff cardiologist at Eisenhower Medical Center. In 2007, he returned to Desert Oasis HealthCare (previously known as Desert Medical Group) where he helped to develop a very successful Congestive Heart Failure Clinic; this was a dream come true. Due to health reasons, Henry reluctantly retired from medicine in 2015.

His hobbies included music, singing, dancing, reading, teaching, astronomy, poetry, good wines, good friends - Henry made it a point to stay in touch with friends many dating back to his early childhood, swimming and golf. Henry loved watching many different sports, and following everything LSU - he was known as a raging LSU football fan.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette of 33 years and his blended family, son Christopher (Lorelee) Bellaci; step-daughter Angela (Scott) Macedo; daughter Jeannine (Michael Barron) Bellaci; daughter Rachelle (Alfonso) Sanchez and step-daughter Trish (Doug) Daley and his eight grandchildren, Britney and Drake Daley; Parker and Stella Macedo; Amanda and Anthony Sanchez and Scarlett and Evelyn Barron; his brother Ike (Valorie) Bellaci, sisters Laura Davis and Mary (Randy) Kinsey; cousins, nieces and nephew and many friends and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held October 20, 2018 at 1:00pm at Eisenhower Medical Center, Annenberg Center for Health Sciences, 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, California. Reception immediately following.

I´ve been blessed to know Henry, as in fortunate and actually "blessed". Henry gave me his "blessed by the Pope" scapular that he personally carried with him for years. He gave it to me saying: "You´ll need this more than me"., as I was embarking upon a cure for heart disease and He thought I might ultimately be in danger if I were successful. I have carried that scapular in my pocket every day since he blessed me with it nearly 25 years ago. It nwas a daily blessing and I thought of my great friend Henry every day. We were good friends and a pair of terrible golfers as well.....weekly terrorizing golf courses all over Palm Springs, Palm Desert & Rancho Mirage.....no place was safe on the courses when we were there......flying errant golf balls at high speed into different fairways and sometimes even in ours. As buddies, we laughed almost constantly. We shared family holidays....we were close. I cherished our friendship and remember our times....Love you brother. See you on the other side. You get the tee time this time OK? ~Gary

Dr. Bellaci was a superb doctor and super person. He helped my mother Mary, who lived at Ironwood Country Club, on her cardio issues and his personality made her look forward to the appointments! His office was very unique. It looked like an actual person worked there, and of course Dr. Bellaci was an actual -- and very unique -- person. I just learned of his death. It was VERY sad news even after all these years.

I remembered Dr.Bellaci tonite from working with him at Eden hospital many years ago. I was sad to see that he is no longer with us. He was an impressive physician, brilliant and so kind, very egalitarian and personable. I remembered taking an astronomy class once at Chabot college and he and his wife also attended I believe. It was a lot of fun hearing his comments and I never forgot him. Condolences to his family.

Dr Bellaci served as my husbands cardiologist from 2006 to 2011. He was an amazing and wonderful human being. He attended a small celebration of life ceremony for Alan when he passed at our home. He had a great relationship with both of us throughout treatment going to the mat to help us throughout. Belated condolences to his wife and family. Somewhere out there in the ethers his great soul is manifesting light and goodness.

Dr. Bellaci was my husband's Dr in Castro Valley in 1983 when he faced a serious cardiac issue at a young age. Today, I looked to see if he was still practicing. With great sadness, I find he passed away this past year. Ironically, he was just a few years older than my husband. He was the most caring, sincere doctor we have encountered. We wanted to let his family know what a tremendous difference he made to so many!! We have lived in Maryland for 30 years and are blessed to have known such a fine man.

I was his receptionist in the early 2000's at LACA. I am sad to find out that he past away. I take away great memories of this awesome human being, never have I met such a caring doctor with his patience. I am glad to have briefly worked for him. I give my condolences to his family.

May he rest in peace,

My condolences to Jeanette. We worked together in the late 1990's and early 2000's at Desert Medical Group. She was kind enough to lend me a crib for my grandson, an infant, to use while he and my daughter were visiting from San Francisco years ago....that grandchild is now in the air force. I am sorry for the family's loss and send blessings to the family at this difficult time. Sally Martin, (RN/Retired), La Quinta.
