Henry Brake Obituary
It is with broken hearts, the family of Henry Ivan Brake announce his sudden passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 14th, 2020, at the age of 66 years.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 44 years Ivernia, his daughters Bobbi Lynn (Patrick), Tiffany (Kevin), and the love of his life - his granddaughter Shannon, his siblings Maurice (Sharon), and Bill (Angelica), his special niece and nephew Hailey and William, his special friends Sterling and Rosie, also a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Henry was predeceased by his parents Scott and Flora Brake, his sister Sandra, and brother-in-law Gordon, his sister Verna, his aunts and uncles, and his special uncle Luke.
Henry was a big part of his community and loved by all who knew him. Fishing was his passion, and he was never happier than when he was out on the water. He always loved to share his vast knowledge of the land and sea with anyone who wished to learn. Henry was also an active member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary.
There will be a public viewing at Parsons Funeral Home and Chapel, 63 North Main Street, Deer Lake, NL, on Sunday, October 18th, 2020, from the hours of 1-2pm, after which a private family viewing and private family service will take place. At 3:00 pm, with Pastor Oscar Parsons officiating. To view the live stream services please go to our face book page at

Good day, we just heard the very sad news about Henry’s passing and after looking back I found this great picture of our trip in 2016.
He was a true gentleman and a vital piece to our trips into the Southwest Gultch. Every year our friend Jeff would call to track down Henry and confirm we were on for another trip to the cabin. Like clockwork he would meet us and take us all back in a few trips. We were very thankful for his visits to the cabin to check on us when we were out for long skis. To be honest we should have given our families his number just in case something did happen and he didn’t find us on those visits. He was a very caring, thoughtful and humble man. Thankful again for all of his hospitality when we were in Newfoundland and we send all of our thoughts your way and to his many friends and family. My condolences to Henry's family. I knew Henry from many trips to the SW gulch cabin and his service bringing in gear. Of course due to his professionalism it was always more than that...it was his reliability, the sense that he knew we were there...and that it was Henry. He will be missed by skiers in the park. We will remember him on our next trip. I remember his double trailer tows using his top class work sled. Many happy memories to his loved ones. Take care.

Maurice & Bill, it’s never easy losing a sibling, you lost three in 6 months. I truly feel your pain.

Henry, my greatest memory of you was Come home year 2000 where your many stories kept us in stitches, laughing. I still have the video. For Norm it was spending many hours at your place when you were young boys.

First of all my condolences to Ivernia, Bobbi Lynn & Tiffany. What a great loss for you!
Maurice, Bill and families, sending you love and big hugs as you lose, yet, another sibling.
Henry was so special and even though I had not seen him much over the years, there are so many memories.
One of my fondest was when he lived with my parents in Ontario. Every payday he would take the short bus ride to Towers and purchase an outfit. Bell bottoms were the rage then and he had some colorful outfits!
Ran into him at the legion in Woody Point one evening, many many years ago and there he was in his cowboy boots, great jeans and a white shirt. This was the day when that red hair was prominent! When he stood up and came towards me I thought, wow, Robert Mitchum, for those who remember that big Hollywood star.
Henry was dearly loved and deeply admired by so many and that in itself is a great legacy!
Henry, you may not have realized this but you were a favourite among us cousins.
We loved you for so many reasons, especially how you made us laugh with your stories.
This is how I will remember you! R.I.P dear one.

Ivernia, I can’t even begin to imagine the pain you are feeling right now. Henry was one of the best men I’ve ever had the privilege to know and call a friend. I’ll never forget the many boat trips we had or the stories he loved to tell. He loved being on the water and and could spend hours sharing everything he knew about the land surrounding him. But what made Henry truly great was the way he loved his family and how his whole face would light up when he would talk about you and the girls. His love for you all shined through and he was quick to say that you were all the best things in his life.
