Hank was two years younger than me in high school. He was popular, friendly and a good athlete. As I recall not only making the varsity football team as a sophomore but starting as a defensive back. RIP

Hank was a wonderful human being! Kind and gentle with a smile that would light a room. I had the great pleasure to know him for many years and many great conversations over a glass of wine. It was such a shock to hear of his passing. My deepest sympathy for his family. May the Lord hold him and keep him in the palm of his hand forever and ever.

Val Joe and Crystal, my deepest condolences. I remember working for Hank in the summer of the late '80s and he let us stay at his house while we roofed at the UTSA. Your brother was one "cool dude" and I always admired and looked up to him. When David called and informed me of his passing, I had to back up and punt! What a human being and what a loss. God's speed Val Joe, love you man!

In this busy, hectic world we live in, it is so precious to have a good friend like Hank. He was someone special that you could call and meet out for a relaxing dinner and just catch up and see how each other's days/weeks have been going. We will miss his friendship and his wonderful stories about the place he loved so much-Santa Fe. He lived life to its fullest. We will miss him.

Hank and I coached baseball together for many years. Little League, Pony League, Select Ball, and a summer college team. He was the yin to my yang. While I was given to screaming and yelling and borderline histrionics, Hank was steady and positive and constructive always. He never lost his cool or lost sight of the big picture. Baseball is fun! If I ever matured or developed 1/2 inch as a coach its because of Hank. Hank was a coach, mentor, and friend to many players, many of whom went on to college and even professional careers and every one of those guys will credit Coach Carroll for helping them along their way. Hank stayed in exceptional physical condition running many miles long after most of his age group had ceased to run many miles. Hank would pitch batting practice endlessly, bucket after bucket, session after session, summer after summer, and never once did I hear him complain of a sore arm and that's not because his arm wasn't sore. When we coached select ball we found our players all over town and we'd invite them to join our team because of their ability and because they impressed us as young men. We'd develop a budget for the summer and divide it out to the guys on the roster. If Hank sensed a family was struggling to pay, he'd pay for them. He'd never say a word and he didnt want anybody to know. He just did it. Hank was a tough little country boy ball player with a big heart and a gently spirit. Lord, receive this fine Bulldog second sacker into the palm of your hand. He has served you well!

Hank and I coached baseball for the better part of 10 years together. Little League, Pony League, Select ball, and a summer college team. He was yin to my yang. I'd scream and yell and demonstrate all sorts of borderline behavior and Hank was constructive and positive and steady in every situation. He was a competitor to the core but never lost his cool or lost sight of the big picture. Baseball is fun! If I ever matured a half inch as a coach I would credit Hank and his example. He was a coach and mentor and good friend over the years to many players and many of those guys went on to college and some to professional careers. Every one of them will credit Hank for helping them get there. When we coached select ball we found players from all over town based on their ability and not their family financial condition. We'd round up a budget and divide it by our roster and ask everybody to chip in. Some had difficulty doing that and when Hank sensed the need, he paid their way. Didn't say anything about it and didn't want anybody to know. He just did it. Hank stayed in exceptional physical shape, running countless miles well past the age when most of us could run countless miles. He pitched batting practice bucket after bucket and day after day and week after week and summer after summer and I'm still waiting on him to complain about a sore arm. He never did and he never will. He was a country boy with a big heart and a gentle spirit. Lord, receive this fine Bulldog second sacker into the palm of your hand. He has served you well.
