To Norina and the Daubner family:
Please accept my deepest sympathies. I had the privilege of working with Henry at WJG&A, and it’s fair to say he is largely responsible for any success I have obtained in my career. When Henry retired, I gave him a pen to honor his skills as a writer and thank him for his tutelage. But I also wanted him to have something to write with since he used up so much ink editing my work.
Reading about Henry’s life, including the wonderful eulogy, reminds me of the other lessons Henry taught me. The ones about life. For that, I am eternally grateful, and thankful to have known him.

To the Daubner family:
My first job out of college many years ago was with The Pittsburgh Press and Henry was one of the first of many co-workers I met and worked with. He showed me the do's and don'ts of the newspaper business and patiently worked with me and got the best from all his reporters.
He was one of the best and he will be missed--as a newspaperman and as an individual.
My sincere sympathies to the entire Daubner family.

Dear Norina,
My prayers are with you and the rest of the family. I'm so grateful for having had your Henry in my life, both while we both were at The Press and more recently when he was interrupting retirement to do a bit of travel writing.
May faith comfort you.

To the Daubner family:
My deepest sympathy on Henry's passing. I worked with Henry at The Press from 1984 until the paper closed in 1992. He was the classic newsman, devoted to finding the truth and presenting it in a straightforward, no-nonsense style. He could motivate you to give your all to even the most mundane story. Henry taught us to always remember the little guy, and that an obituary for a steelworker was just as important as the obituary for the mayor. He also spoke truth to power in his editorials, and never pulled his punches when something just didn't add up or make sense. No one intimidated him, yet he was also one of the most nurturing editors I've ever met. He was a great role model for all of us at The Press.

To the Daubner family:
Mr. Daubner was an early mentor to me at the Press, and I learned a lot from him, especially about handling the inevitable reversals and complications of life with a great sense of humor and an appreciation for the absurd. He was one of the good ones, and will be missed.

Dear Norina, When I think of my days as a reporter at the Press, I think of Henry. He was there already when I started at 7 am--wide-awake enough to catch my sleepy errors and better than several cups of coffee to get me moving. I respected his judgement and his editing, and feel a deep sense of loss at his passing. Please take care and know that many, many of his former reporters think of him often--and with only the kindest memories.
